BS: Swollen Eye

From: SINSULL

Can't let Tom, Spaw and Kendall get all the attention: I woke up this morning with my left eye completely swollen shut. I look like the last scene of the first Rocky movie. The entire eye from brow to about an inch below was puffed up. After cold compresses I have been at least able to open it. No pain. No itching. But I am sitting at work with a teabag on my eye wondering what to do.
Any suggestions?

Tooth abcess?

No pain. I think it is a spider bite. I am painfully allergic to their bites. The swelling is going down. The eye is opening.. That was weird.

If there's no pain and no itching, it's probably not an allergy or a bite. Sometimes stuff gets plugged and backs up and when you get vertical again, it unplugs.

You don't always get pain with tooth abcesses

ROTFLMAO!

I think you'd better head for the cellar, Jeri.

Better join her Jacqui. You're both on my S List.
Draining out my eyes and sinuses now. Gross. Eye is almost normal but a little red. This was fun. SNIIIIFFFF!

Mr. Happy - ignore them all. I will keep that in mind. I have a tooth on that side that the dentist has been keeping an eye on. The rapid onset and equally rapid dissipation still leads me to believe it is an allergic reaction - DAMN I hope it's not fleas. LOL

Aha-- the tube that drains your eyes into your nose probably had cat hair in it or something. You ever see those people that can squirt milk out of their eyes after snorting it?

Or an eye lash. I woke up that way one time, went to a specialist that morning. My eye was glued shut with gunk from some allergy, though he couldn't tell me what the irritant was. I know it wasn't fleas because we didn't have them in WY. Glad yours is getting better. I keep saline eye drops handy to help wash out allergic reaction to weeds, etc. this time of year. No medicine, just pure water drops...can't remember the name of them just now.

For something like that I think I'd go to the doctor - if your regular doctor isn't available, then maybe an Emergimed clinic or something. You might need antibiotics.

Back to normal with a bit of redness and "dry eye". But the skin around my eye looks like a deflated balloon. Hope it tightens up again. The one droopy eye look is not attractive.

Shut up Jeri...

Book an appt with the doc anyway! You can always cancel if you want. You can't make a sooner one if you don't call NOW. (Yes, I know the office is closed now... don't piss me off with details.)

Get off yer ass and take care of the details.

My girlfriend once got an infected eyelid from a cat scratch. She went to the local eye hospital who took it VERY seriously, did a thorough examination and gave her a heavy dose of antibiotics on the spot (injected, I think).

You might think they were worried about infection spreading to the eyeball and maybe causing blindness. They weren't.

The real risk they had in mind was meningitis. Infections like that can spread up the optic nerve and into the brain within hours.

Fine with me. We'll drink some wine in the wine cellar and Spidey can teach us some songs. He must be able to play some wicked chords with that spread.

Just the title of this thread made my eye wince.

Some spiders can do that.

Two more spider bites this morning. They must wake with the son. At least my eye is almost normal. But I bit my tongue in my sleep and now I'm talking funny. Droopy eye, lisping speech, itchy foot from the bite - I am a mess.

Time for an arachnid eradication, methinks. Good thing you don't heat with wood.

Borrow a walking stick Mary, I find it helps when one walks with a lisp.

Mary

You have cats. Do they go under your bed? Has the fabric under box spring bee ripped up by kitties?

little spiders love to live inside box springs and seek warm blood at night.

If you can, replace the box spring.

If not take it out doors, rip all that messed up fabric off, spray inside with spider killer of your choice. Let the the thing air out for 24 plus hours and do it again.

Get some hessian or muslin or a fitted sheet and a good upholstery stapler and recover the bottom of the box spring.

while the bed is outdoors, bomb your room and check nooks and crevices especially behind and under furniture where the little buggers can ihide.

Keep the kitties out of your bedroom.

Tam, you need to understand the relationship Mary has with her kitties.
They are in charge, and Mary does what they say, not vice versa.
Sent her this, and she said she could have written it.

FOR ALL PET OWNERS (love it) Just perfect.....ENJOY

The following was found posted very low on a refrigerator door.

Dear Dogs and Cats: The dishes with the paw prints are yours and contain your food. The other dishes are mine and contain my food. Placing a paw print in the middle of my plate and food does not stake a claim for it becoming your food and dish, nor do I find that aesthetically pleasing in the slightest.

The stairway was not designed by NASCAR and is not a racetrack. Racing me to the bottom is not the object. Tripping me doesn't help because I fall faster than you can run.

I cannot buy anything bigger than a king sized bed. I am very sorry about this. Do not think I will continue sleeping on the couch to ensure your comfort, however. Dogs and cats can actually curl up in a ball when they sleep It is not necessary to sleep perpendicular to each other, stretched out to the fullest extent possible. I also know that sticking tails straight out and having tongues hanging out on the other end to maximize space is nothing but sarcasm.

For the last time, there is no secret exit from the bathroom! If, by some miracle, I beat you there and manage to get the door shut, it is not necessary to claw, whine, meow, try to turn the knob or get your paw under the edge in an attempt to open the door. I must exit through the same door I entered. Also, I have been using the bathroom for years - canine/feline attendance is not required.

The proper order for kissing is: Kiss me first, then go smell the other dog or cat's butt. I cannot stress this enough.

Finally, in fairness, dear pets, I have posted the following message on the front door:

TO ALL NON-PET OWNERS WHO VISIT AND LIKE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT OUR PETS:

    (1) They live here. You don't.
    (2) If you don't want their hair on your clothes, stay off the furniture. That's why they call it 'fur'-niture.
    (3) I like my pets a lot better than I like most people.
    (4) To you, they are animals. To me, they are adopted sons/daughters who are short, hairy, walk on all fours and don't speak clearly.

Remember, dogs and cats are better than kids because they --

    (1) eat less,
    (2) don't ask for money all the time,
    (3) are easier to train,
    (4) normally come when called,
    (5) never ask to drive the car,
    (6) don't hang out with drug using people,
    (7) don't smoke or drink,
    (8) don't want to wear your clothes,
    (9) don't have to buy the latest fashions,
    (10) don't need a gazillion pounds for college and
    (11) if they get pregnant, you can sell their children....

My cats love to tear up the muslin and hide in the box spring. That's where Alice kept her kittens. Spider bites are not nearly as unnerving as the flea invasion. I like spiders and often save the silly ones who get stuck in the bath tub. Yeah the little ones bite me but the big ones keep the mosquito population at bay. No eradication going on here.
Did the Tam actually suggest I keep the cats out of my bedroom???? LOL Ed and Fred would have the door down within 24 hours. Alice would scream and moan herself into an epileptic fit and Miss Lizzy would simply lay down and die.

Skeeters? Spiders?

A Newf buddy of mine showed me sommat one night. He caught several skeeters and threw them at a spider web... right through. I tried it several times... same deal. He said the skeeters were like bats and could navigate through the webs. I know that sounds very strange, but I saw it.

My neighbor was out last night with his tiny little dustmop of a dog. Freddie loves to torment this poor animal - sits across the street and glares at her. She is kept in by an Invisible Fence.
So the dog is barking at Freddie and Ed (read Godzilla The Cat) stomps out from behind a bush to see what the f is going on. The guy shouts "Holy shit! Look at the size of that thing." Then picks up his dog in case Ed attacked. Pretty funny.

Hahahaha... minds me of Cheucy... when Cassie would get into shit (and she was big and could REALLY scrap on accounta Cheucie TAUGHT her BIG time), Cheucie would just kinda "arrive" and sit and the dogs in the hood would think twice. She looked so regal as she demurely gave them the eye in such a casual manner... like, "Go ahead. Make my day."

Cheucie was an amazing cat. Listened to every word I said. And complied, even tho, at times, she would make this goshawful gutteral "fuck you, you prick" sound. 22 pounds of smart, fearless cat. I miss her.

Hils - I think the spiders stay out of sight for fear of becoming a munchy snack for the cats.

Hopefully, by the time you get here, the mozzies will be just about finished for the season. I am REALLY looking forward to that time!
