18 Jul 99 - 07:33 PM (#96592) Subject: Old Irish Song From: Pete Curry My great-great grandmother from Ireland taught my father a song that went: "The first thing they gave me was an old rusty gun/With a place for my finger and a place for my thumb; The next thing they gave me was an old blue coat/ with twenty brass buttons buttoned up to my throat; Thenthey sent me off to war where I never was before/and they shot me in the hind and they shot me in the fore" etc. Does anyone know anything about this song? Have you ever seen the text or heard a recording of it? Any help will be much app |
