Today I got the BOGOF Macs and made one HUGE burger by taking out most of the buns. I struggled to jam the whole works down my throat in one decadent gorging, but I did it... until next year. Now, KFC (crispy)... once evey two years... oooo... just felt my colon say WHAT? IS THAT ANYTIME SOON? I had to do the Macs... I lost another two pounds in the past week. So... what do you "do" once in a long while? |

14 Sep 09 - 09:06 PM (#2723793) Subject: RE: BS: Every now and then, I just cut loose... From: Bee-dubya-ell I spend about half my weekends at festivals of one sort or another, which means I'm around a lot of festival food. I can avoid most of it pretty easily, but once or twice a year I must have a really big smoked turkey leg. It's not that I like them all that much, it's the act of eating them. Eating a smoked turkey leg is a publicly sanctioned form of disgusting primitive behavior. Turkey leg eaters become pretty much indistinguishable from Neanderthal Man. Just trade the Hawaiian shirts for bearskins, and we'd be right at home in Gorn's cave. |

Middle aged woman goes to pantry & pulls out boxes & bags of snack food & sits in front of TV munching with remote in hand. Sound balloons from TV are bits from soap operas, games & reality shows. In the last frame she staggers off, bloated & holding her stomach, thinking "For some reason now & then, it's something you have to do" My favourite food is deep-dried yumminess, & every now & them I buy a bit, knowing it won't taste as good as it looks & I'm rarely disappointed. sandra |

I take the line from Auntie Mame (Ros Russell) very seriously: "I want to LIVE, LIVE, LIVE!!!!" I intend to live until I die. Live every moment and love every moment. Pat Swayze is a great example! That brownie with choc ice cream at the Cafe NamasThe has become weekly treat. But so is the music and if I clap enough, will I use up the calories?? Beer/Adrien and his gang were a terrific treat last week!!! |

15 Sep 09 - 11:23 AM (#2724147) Subject: RE: BS: Every now and then, I just cut loose... From: SharonA Well, I must confess that I cut loose far more often than "every now and then" -- hence the obesity! -- but among the sinful treats I enjoy, there are two that will send me to a sub-basement of Hell: 1. Scrapple. It's gotta be Hatfield brand, because it's got the best blend of spices on the stuff IMO. It's gotta be fried up like scrambled eggs (mooshed up and pushed around in the frying pan), not fried as a whole slice nor flipped like a pancake (which burns the surface and leaves the inside too soft). For those who don't know what scrapple is, you may be better off not knowing, but you can read all the disgusting details here. Just to prove how bad it is for you, this page verifies that there are no healthy alternatives to it! 2. "Dulce de Leche" -- caramel pudding made by boiling sweetened condensed milk in the can. The food of the gods. Just don't do what my friend did (and I do mean my friend, not me!) and let the hot can explode hot pudding all over your kitchen walls, ceiling, curtains, etc. Looking at the aftermath of that incident kinda put me off dulce de leche for a while... but not forever! |

15 Sep 09 - 11:33 AM (#2724151) Subject: RE: BS: Every now and then, I just cut loose... From: Mrrzy Now that I have high cholesterol, I've cut out meat, eggs, cheese, and butter, and so far lost 15 lbs in the first 3 months - but when I went camping, I *had* to eat the steak brochettes someone made, they were YUMMMMMY! The funny thing is, usually, I miss cheese way more than I miss meat. I think that once a year, I will have a cheese course. I already know that once a year, at this camping thing, I will eat meat. And love it. |

15 Sep 09 - 11:52 AM (#2724167) Subject: RE: BS: Every now and then, I just cut loose... From: RangerSteve A few things mentioned above - Spam and milkshakes. As for scrapple, it's available in most NJ diners south of I-78. I get my fill of it, since I'm a serious diner fan. Fried seafood of any kind, except squid, which I don't consider to be food. Pecan Pie. Onion Rings - battered, not breaded. A few Chinese dishes - Walnut chicken or shrimp. Sweet and sour chicken. Fried wantons. Mexican food - real Mexican food from a real Mexican restaurant - three enchiladas - one beef, one bean, one cheese with a huge helping of refried beans. Sicilian style pizza. Reeses peanut butter cups. peanut butter and bacon sandwiches. |

15 Sep 09 - 12:06 PM (#2724177) Subject: RE: BS: Every now and then, I just cut loose... From: Dorothy Parshall It is far easier to stick to a diet if you allow a treat now and then. I lost 30 pounds in 4 months by sticking to: nonfat plain yogurt for break; salad and humous for lunch; brocoli and chicken breast (boneless, skinless) for supper, with salsa. But on Sunday - a cheese omelet with homefries and a double choc muffin which usually lasted me until Tuesday. I still stick to a low carb diet - except for treats now and then. Strict self-denial is not good for the soul but the music helps, yes? Thanks for the u-tube post of Adrien and gang! Nice to share with the less fortunate. |

From: Bill D "sweetened condensed milk" (Borden's Eagle Brand, of course) Now SharonA had to go and remind me.. *sigh*... When I was a kid, I just opened the can with a 'church key'...the kind that makes triangular holes..and pour it on a slice of bread. THAT one I now do even less often than Spam.....maybe every 6-8 years. (we kept it in the fridge, and when it was getting low, I'd tilt it up and blow in the small hole to force a bit out the large hole... I was usually careful) |

15 Sep 09 - 08:39 PM (#2724487) Subject: RE: BS: Every now and then, I just cut loose... From: Maryrrf Oh yes, cinnamon toast is another variation of the "butter and sugar and white bread" theme - and a delicious one it is! Yeah those were the days, when no one stinted on the good stuff. Slather the white bread with butter and, as Bill said, plenty of sugar topped with cinnamon. Pop under the broiler till it bubbles. I make it maybe every six months but of course now I'm rather stingy with the butter and sugar because I feel guilty about the calories, and I make it on whole wheat bread. This is a very dangerous thread. I have all the ingredients on hand to make this sinful cinnamon toast.... |
