I was pointed to it by the NPR article, Annoying Music: Beatles Cover Songs, in which, in honor of the recent Beatles remasters, Weekend Edition host Scott Simon spoke to Jim Nayder — host of The Annoying Music Show!. Among the treasures discussed is Tiny Tim's Latin rendition of "Hey Jude", and Cathy Berberian's operatic cover of "I Want to Hold Your Hand". :-) ~ Becky in Tucson |

Years back, my son and I heard a song on that show written and sung by a German whose English was not all that great. He's also clearly proven his point that the best annoying music is created when two forms of music are combined--creating music so annoying "it's actually dangerous". And that Kathy Berberian version of "I Want To Hold Your Hand" is the crowning glory. I hope that one also won the "best contemporary pop schizophrenic arrangement" Grammy when it came out. Though it could have also won the best classical schizophrenic arrangement. And PDQ Bach would have been proud to own it. |
