Review: A brand new love song

Subject: Review: A brand new love song
From: GUEST,Guest

I wished for roses from my dearie,
A gift to show your love is true,
An amber ring to say you love me.
    You only kissed me tenderly.
The night is cold and I am weary
I watch you dream the long night through.
I lie awake and sleep escapes me
And so I listen to you breathe.

And as you sleep I say, "I love you"
There is no star I'd place above you.
When you awake I'll work beside you.
You are my darling dear, goodnight.

The years have bloomed for us more sweetly
Than all the fragrant roses do.
Your tender kiss suits me completely
You hold me close to comfort me.
Your callused hands grow flowers and berries,
Ripe apples, pears and peaches too.
You gather up the garden bounty:
All that you have you give to me.

And as you sleep I say, "I love you"
There is no star I'd place above you.
When you awake I'll work beside you.
You are my darling dear, goodnight.

A steadfast heart is what you give me,
Upon my hand a wedding ring.
The songs I have your courage brings me
I need no jewels from the sea.
    What price the light that only joy sees;
The loving trust that gives me wings?
You are my true love here beside me.
I hold your hand and fall asleep.

And as we sleep I say, "I love you"
There is no star I'd place above you.
When we awake I'll work beside you.
You are my darling dear. Goodnight.

I'd like to hear this sung sometime. I love the sentiments expressed, and the way the words show me the love and not just tell about it.

Beautiful lyric. Can we hear the melody someplace?

Thank you olddude, Jeri, & sing4peace. The title is Roses and Amber. I've sung it at the South Portland song circle. You must have missed that one, Jeri. I'd be glad to sing it again sometime.

Aw, I remembered (although time-blurred in memory), but didn't want to 'out' you. I can't remember what it sounded like though, and I DO want to hear it.

Hell, I remember WHERE you were sitting when you sang it: at the end of the counter, facing the dining room table. I believe it was after the John Roberts house concert. In July, I think, so it would have been after Jed's house concert, I think, when John M was there... I think.

Perhaps you're remembering "Redwing Blackbird", at TRUEBRIT's house, Jeri. I didn't sing in July with all that wonderful instrumental session (Jed Marum, John MacKenzie, Nick Apollonio, and yourself), but a month or two before that I did sing "Roses and Amber" at Sins' house.

Thanks, all.

Because she is so shy, most people don't know how truly talented our Maeve really is. she is amazing and we need to get her to post some of her music. I want a Maeve CD in the near future if I have to drive there and setup the equipment ...

Great stuff my dear friend

Forgive me for refreshing my own song thread.

I wrote it for my husband a few months before the fire. One year and a month after the fire I am refreshing it for him on our engagement anniversary.

To Truelove: Always and ever,

Maeve
