songs about food that kids can sing

I'm looking for songs for a food-themed elementary school choral concert, and after "Food Glorious Food" and "On Top of Spaghetti" I'm getting stuck. I'm not looking for children's songs per se, just songs that nine and ten-year-olds can sing. Any ideas?

The song recorded by The Scaffold (Paul McCartney's brother, Mike McGear, Roger McGough and John Gorman):

Monday is washing day
Tuesday is soup
Wednesday is roast beef
Thursday is shepherds pie
Friday is fish
Saturday is pay day
Sunday is church

Cauliflowers fluffy and cabbages green
Strawberries sweeter than any I've seen
Brown potatoes in lit-tle heaps
Down in the darkness where the celery sleeps-
The apples are ripe, the plums are red,
Broad beans are sleeping in their blanketty bed.

Thanks to all for your ideas. I'm not a regular here but I knew this would be a great place to ask. (Though given that at last year's concert a kid threw up all over me, I'm not about to sing about "a cup of cold sick" ...)

To the tune of On top of Old Smokey

On top of Spaghetti
all covered in cheese,
I once had a meatball
till somebody sneezed.
It rolled off the table
and onto the floor
and then my poor meatball
rolled out of the door.

Dear Betty -

According to: Rise up Singing and Where Have All The Flowers Gone (Seeger) the song "Garbage" that begins with "Mr. Thompson calls the waiter, orders steak and baked potater..." etc. was written by Bill Steele and copywritten in 1969 by William Steele. Copyright was assigned to Rainbow Collection LOT in 1992.

If this isn't true, I'd appreciate more background.

Thanks,
JK

I just got an alert about your forum. I did NOT write the song GARBAGE, but know Bill Steele's song very well. Pete Seeger also recorded a version of it and added verses of his own.

The song is in "Rise Up Singing" along with some songs I did write.

I have written many songs about food and eating (I write and sing for kids so food is a big subject).

You can hear all my songs for free right on my web site at this link:
http://www.barrylou.com/sampleTitles.html

You can also get the lyrics to everything here:

I have tried to make my web site a resource and hope this helps.

Whoa! I'm sorry about that, Barry, and very glad you're here to correct me. I took my kids across the country in a minivan in 1988 when they were 6. They're twin boys. Your music helped save our sanity. If anyone ever doubts the value of "free" music, ours is a story to point. Dick Pleasants used to have occasional Saturday morning folk programs for children. I taped a few then went looking for the sources. Now that their friends are having children, they're asking for that music to pass on.

Back to food, there's Christin Lavin's Cold Pizza for Breakfast.
