27 Sep 09 - 07:34 PM (#2732763) Subject: BS: The Giant Claw (and lesser monsters) From: Little Hawk You've probably seen this before, right? Well, I think it's time you saw it again. Yes indeedy. ;-) Get set to be terrified to the max by THE GIANT CLAW!!!!!!!!! (and supporting cast) I loved these movies when I was a kid. The Giant Claw! |
27 Sep 09 - 07:47 PM (#2732775) Subject: RE: BS: The Giant Claw (and lesser monsters) From: Bill D I, on the other hand, could barely watch them, because I could see the flaws so clearly...even at age 8-12. "They can't do THAT!....that's stupid." Now, "The Thing"....that was scary! |

27 Sep 09 - 08:15 PM (#2732791) Subject: RE: BS: The Giant Claw (and lesser monsters) From: Little Hawk Well, of course it was stupid and unrealistic stuff, Bill. That's part of the fun. Sheer escapism. Seriously, I think I only ever knew one kid above the age of 7 or 8 who was dumb enough to believe the stuff in those monster movies...and I don't mean me. I mean Spaw. Yeah, he was a total sap at that age. Believed anything he saw on film. ;-) |
27 Sep 09 - 08:29 PM (#2732807) Subject: RE: BS: The Giant Claw (and lesser monsters) From: Bill D I was not very good at being a kid....*wry grin*.... I didn't like the silly 'jokes' they told and was very picky about my heroes & monsters. I WANTED my escapism to be at least theoretically plausible...(Superman had a 'scientific' explanation...Captain Marvel was dumb.) |
27 Sep 09 - 08:49 PM (#2732817) Subject: RE: BS: The Giant Claw (and lesser monsters) From: Little Hawk I know exactly what you mean, Bill. I was like that too as a kid...about almost everything. VERRRY serious and rational like a little adult. It drove the other kids nuts. But I made one exception: for monster movies. Part of the fun was seeing the giant holes in the plot. |
27 Sep 09 - 09:39 PM (#2732833) Subject: RE: BS: The Giant Claw (and lesser monsters) From: CarolC Caltiki was the scariest movie I ever saw when I was a kid. I had nightmares for a long time after I saw it. I still get a knot in my stomach when I think about it. |

27 Sep 09 - 09:54 PM (#2732846) Subject: RE: BS: The Giant Claw (and lesser monsters) From: Little Hawk Holy shit!!! The Blob with a Mayan twist. That is pretty scary. And believable too, eh, Bill? Who could not believe that thing is real? We are talking maximum credibility on this one. I can hardly believe I never heard of Caltiki before. How did I ever miss it? |

28 Sep 09 - 12:10 PM (#2733260) Subject: RE: BS: The Giant Claw (and lesser monsters) From: Becca72 My sister and I watched "It's Alive" this weekend. I remember being freaked out seeing it as a kid but all we did was laugh and make fun. Funny how a few years can change your perception. :-) |
28 Sep 09 - 12:19 PM (#2733267) Subject: RE: BS: The Giant Claw (and lesser monsters) From: SINSULL I can remember being terrified by Monoliths. I saw it about a year ago and laughed out loud. Cheesy story line, pathetic special effects and downright silly ending. The original "Invaders From Mars" terrified me. It still holds up well when compared to the really remanke with Karen black (?). |
28 Sep 09 - 12:57 PM (#2733288) Subject: RE: BS: The Giant Claw (and lesser monsters) From: RangerSteve I remember one called "The Giant Behemoth", which was one of those "Dinosaurs returning to life in modern times" movies, and, I believe, a British production. It scared the daylights out of me, although "Behemoth" was a new word for me, and I was disappointed to find it wasn't about a giant moth. Also, looking back, I realize that "Giant Behemoth" is sort of redundant. Are there small behemoths? And, although everyone I know has seen "The Crawling Eye", I somehow missed it. I hear the monster was pretty cheesy. |
28 Sep 09 - 01:35 PM (#2733333) Subject: RE: BS: The Giant Claw (and lesser monsters) From: Bill D " Are there small behemoths?" Guy I knew saw an ad seeking applicants for "circus midget". He said he was gonna apply. "What?", I said..."You are 6'4" and 275 lbs.!" "Exactly!", he said, "I'll be billed as The World's Largest Midget." |
28 Sep 09 - 02:15 PM (#2733367) Subject: RE: BS: The Giant Claw (and lesser monsters) From: Amos As the Guardian Keeper of the Gates of All Things Unreal, you have done stellar service this day, Little Hawk, by dragging this mental ordure into the commons room for public inspection. A |
28 Sep 09 - 10:36 PM (#2733742) Subject: RE: BS: The Giant Claw (and lesser monsters) From: Little Hawk Thank you, Amos. I love you, man. If you were a woman I'd propose a little tête-à-tête at either your place or mine... ;-) Bill, that friend of yours is clearly a brilliant man. Did he go on to do great things at the circus? Along similar lines, I launched a local business in the Orillia area called The Elephant Finder. It's a service that finds your lost elephant(s) for you. We have never yet failed to find a lost elephant, and our proudest boast is that we do NOT use peanuts. We find elephants in non-allergenic ways that are environmentally friendly. Our success rate so far is NO failures in ZERO attempts....a perfect record! This is after five years of business covering ALL of Simcoe County, Ontario. |
29 Sep 09 - 12:16 AM (#2733780) Subject: RE: BS: The Giant Claw (and lesser monsters) From: CarolC Surely whenever someone loses an elephant in Orillia, the lost elephant can invariably be found waiting in line at the drive up window of the nearest Tim Hortons. Eh! |
29 Sep 09 - 01:46 AM (#2733800) Subject: RE: BS: The Giant Claw (and lesser monsters) From: Little Hawk That seems rather likely. As soon as an elephant is lost we shall investigate all the Tim Horton's drive-throughs in the town. This means we'll need to hire at least 7 more people, and that means more than doubling our present staff. |
29 Sep 09 - 02:04 AM (#2733804) Subject: RE: BS: The Giant Claw (and lesser monsters) From: CarolC I would think at least 14 more people. Two would be needed for each location. One to lead the elephant, and the other to hold the elephant's coffee and tea biscuits. |
29 Sep 09 - 10:56 AM (#2734110) Subject: RE: BS: The Giant Claw (and lesser monsters) From: Mrrzy The one that scared me into immobility was The Blob. I was watching upstairs on the "bad" TV as downstairs my high-school aged sisters had a wild party and our parents, prudently, had left the premises, I must have been about 10, and I was fairly literally petrified... caught between 2 terrors, the Blob and the idea of running to my sisters and admit to being a scaredy-cat in front of all their friends... |
