28 Sep 09 - 01:19 PM (#2733312) Subject: A Bit of Good News From: JedMarum Sorry to be tooting my own horn, but I am thrilled by this award and want to shout it from the rooftops! My album Cross Over The River WON the Album of the Year Award - and my song COME BACK KATY was selected the Number 6 Song of the Year in the 2009 JP Folk Awards program - both in the Traditional/Folk categories. JP Folk describes itself as the "worlds largest grassroots music organization" and their awards program is by far the biggest in the world. For the 2009 awards they have judged over 42,000 albums and 560,000 songs - from albums published in 2008 and 2009. These albums are from independent and signed artists distributed mainly via on-line sales engines. |

From: Micca Jed, Well done, it is no more than you deserve, recognition for the fine work you put into to your music and song, (I still ocassionally get Lilac Acres as an Earworm it is so memorable) One of my Getaway memories is the "Picking styles" workshop you and Rick Fielding did at Ramblewood, a truly great afternoon (especially to someone who doesnt play an instrument!!!) that held my interest and attention from start to finish. Congratulations (must try and get a copy while I am at the Getaway, I bet Dick will haave it) Micca |

I had been planning to let it go and doing a repackaging of this and my other CW album. We'll have to see if demand continues. Anyway - that's a nice problem to have! |
29 Sep 09 - 05:26 PM (#2734494) Subject: RE: A Bit of Good News-Jed Marum-Album of the Year! From: Reinhard What is the "JP Folk Award"? A Google search for this string only shows your self promotion but I can't find any web reference for this awardi itself. |
29 Sep 09 - 06:12 PM (#2734547) Subject: RE: A Bit of Good News-Jed Marum-Album of the Year! From: GUEST Sorry for the self promotion. I was not anxious to post anything here - but in the end, decided to overcome my reluctance and share my enthusiasm. JP Folk Awards page is here. And their Wikipedia entry describes the organization nicely. They partner with some of the new music business folks to promote sales of indie artists (like me), and label artists - all of whom distribute their music through the new mechanisms of on-line sales and MP3 distribution (like iTunes, Napster, etc). Their primary partners in this venture are: Disc Makers, CD Baby, OurStage.com and Taxi. All of these are business that indie and small label artists are familiar with, even if they are not users. For this awards project they considered 42,000 albums and 500,000 some songs that were published in 2009. I hope that explains it. Agin - sorry for the self-promotion. |
29 Sep 09 - 06:30 PM (#2734563) Subject: RE: A Bit of Good News-Jed Marum-Album of the Year! From: Jeri Next time, PM me and I'll start the thread. I have this CD and I have all of Jed's CDs except one. This is my favorite. I'm not a big Civil War buff either--I just like the collection of songs on it. Apparently, I have good taste. |
