Hello,

I am looking for information on the Scottish lullaby 'Hush A Bye Burdie, croon, croon'....(lyrics below) DOes anyone know this and the origins of it? How old, and from what part of Scotland does it come?

'Hush a bye Burdie,croon, croon
Hush a bye burdie, croon
The sheep have gone to the mountainside
They'll no' be home til noon, noon

Braw it is milking the cow, cow,
Braw it is milking the cow
The bells are ringing the birds are singing
The wild deer go galloping by, by

Hush a bye burdie croon croon
Hush a bye burdie croon
The goats have gone to the silver wood
The cows have gone to the broom, broom

Also - what does 'Braw' mean?

Thanks

Guest, LittleLark- Try this Digital Tradition link to begin Found right here
with some notes on the origin- note that the diminutive for "bird" is more commonly spelled "birdie". That and a few other slight variations (note "ba" for "bye") will make a difference if you decide to search with Google or any other search engine.

Braw- fine, good.
