Does anyone know of any low key pub based folk weekend we could take our camper van to for the weekend of 9th - 10th - 11th of October? Anywhere within 100 miles of Hull (the centre of the universe that is)would be great. Any kind of music really.

It's Banbury festival. Good festival and fringe. Priority for campervan space will be given to festival ticket holders though.

There's this one:
Derby Traditional Music & Arts Festival
But it may not be the low key one you are looking for - great festival, though.

There's the Folk and Fun Weekend 9th/10th October at Deneholme Centre near Allendale in Northumberland.

All three are great folk weekends, in their own different ways, but neither Derby nor Banbury are pub-based, or "low-key" in the way I guess you mean, whereas the Folk'n'Fun is probably quite a bit further than your 100 miles tolerance zone from the centre of the universe!

Good to see your post tho' Brian - I'd wondered whether you were still around the scene (in the nicest possible way!)... hope to catch up with you again sometime!

It's good to be remembered! Yes I'm still around and keeping busy - see Belefant Records
if you're interested.

Having sung "The Rose of Allendale" zillions of times my attendance would seem almost compulsory!

Thanks a lot!

It turns out I am already a member of mudcat with the screen name belerecords but several computers later my memory is clearly not as good as the mudcat one! Maybe I should start a thread saying who I am and what I'm doing. . .

Cheers,

Ha! Solved it more simply - just changed my screen name to my real name! Why do we need screen names anyway?

I guess I probably know loads of the folk who write all the great stuff on here (and some of the witty stuff too) but I can't put a real name or face to the mudcat screen name. Is there a way of seeing peoples real names or are we all meant to be seriously anonymous like being in MI6 or something. Is the identity behind a mudcat name an official secret perhaps? Anyway I'm definitely me!

I prefer to keep who I am a secret Brian but you can find me in Hawich on the 9th to 11th at the Shanty Festival.

Now all you have to do is burgal my house whilst I'm away Brian or worse still dump a load of Banjos in my front garden.

It's Marsden Jazz festival, not folk, I know, but very good all the same.
