THE HENNESSYS will be performing an exclusive rendition of 'Waiting at the Oak' last performed in 1989.

'Waiting at the Oak' was created by John Prior and Frank Hennessy to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the chartist Uprising of 1839 in Newport. The Oak refers to the Welsh Oak pub in risca where the marchers had gathered for the final push on Nepwort.

Now on the 170th anniversary The Hennessys will be performing at the Newport Centre for 'Celebrating Democracy', an evening of performance and drama hosted by Beverley Humphreys.
7pm - 9:30pm

Godd to see all the interest

I think its going to be a great night!! hope lots of people can make it!

The Hennessys are performing Waiting at the Oak which Frank Hennessy and John Prior wrote in 1989 for the 150th anniversary of the Chartist uprising and this will only be the second time since its premiere that it has been performed, and the first time in Newport.

The account tells the tale of the South Wales Chartists who met at the Welsh Oak pub in Risca before the final March on Neport in 1839.
