does anyone know where I can get an external jack socket which attaches to the bottom end strap button, preferably from a supplier in the UK? - I've seen one, but can't remember where.

Straplok by (I think) Jim Dunlop does versions of this. Effectively replaces the end button on guitar/mandolin etc. Needs internal wiring to connect to your pickup. there are other non-locking versions, but I can't remember the names. Hobgoblin or Music Room may have some, but any reasonable guitar/music shop should be able to source one for you.

alex s,

Hiya!

Good to meet y'all Ingleton at weakend!

I used to use a cross- hole external pickup, easily attach/detachable, you can get 'em almost any music shop, got mine from Cleckie's Music Room

Good idea, and good to see you in the Wheatsheaf - good session. We had a great gig at the Railway on Sunday night, too. If you're ever in the Burnley area look us up - www.burnleyfolkclub.co.uk. Cheers, alex s.

Well, you had trouble with your memory, Alex, but I had trouble with my eyes (or my brain?). I had been wondering what on earth a "sock jacket" was...

Right. I get it now. Presumably I can get an Aran-knit or tie-dyed pair to wear over my socks at folky events? But please don't confuse me any further by telling me how to wire them up to my pickup!
