20 Jul 99 - 07:33 PM (#97495) Subject: RE: words for Carter Family song From: JSTPLNFOLK Thanks Night Owl. I'm pretty sure it is Dixie Queen- at least that's what I hear. I sang the song 15 or so years ago with an oldtime string band. Our lead guy was pretty hip to Carter stuff and he gave it to us as 'DixieQueen'. I'll look forward to your next reply. My name is Michael, and my partner Cathryn and I are the duo of 'Just Plain Folk'. We live in Stanwood,Wa. a small town on Puget Sound. Later and thanks again!! |

21 Jul 99 - 03:13 AM (#97578) Subject: RE: words for Carter Family song From: Night Owl I didn't have time tonight to listen to the lyrics.....seems to me there are more verses, but I'm not sure. If so, I'll try to post before the weekend. In the meantime, how DO we post songs for the DT?? I think this and "Sweet Fern" should both be included. |

30 Aug 07 - 04:07 PM (#2137046) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Dixie Darling (Carter Family) From: Charley Noble I was listening to this song being sung a month or so ago and then realized I had mined the tune for one of my songs, "Pastures of Memories." I did wonder where the "familiar" tune came from. Cheerily, Charley Noble |

I don't like to go to lyrics sites blind because some are loaded with pop-ups and cookies and what-else; I won't patronize them. I think it is only courtesy to let the reader decide. Some fixer clone has objected and removed the site name leaving only the link. From now on, I will give the lyrics site name and let the reader forge the link if he/she so wishes. 31 Aug 07 - 01:20 PM (#2137802) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Dixie Darling (Carter Family) From: GUEST,Songster Bob I think the version at the last link (Carter family song index) above is the most accurate. For instance, all the others quoted here had it "silver moon," and I'm sure it's "silv'ry moon." It's a lovely song, for sure. Bob |
