BS: GM sells Hummer to Chinese?

Is this a blowjob or what?

The USA and CAN governments give GM billions of $ and they sell one of their lines to China. Well, f*** me! My tax dollars are going to send more jobs to China. I am either remiss in understanding the logic or I.... aaagggghhhhh!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know exactly what a "blow-job" means to *you* Gnu, but I think your particular personal needs were explored at length by J.G.Ballard in 'Crash'.

GM has totally abandoned the Saturn line. Pensky was going to buy it but foreign capital did not come through.

GM had an electric car with a 99% approval rating by all. They canceled the leases and crushed every last one.

Wall Street could have invested in America's last huge manufacturing base but chose instead to gamble on martgage derivitives.

Part of the government-forced restructuring of GM required that it get rid of unprofitable lines. It is concentrating on its four core lines, Chevrolet, GM, Buick and Cadillac.

The Chinese company made the best bid for Hummer. No tax dollars are going to China, that statement is nonsense.

The foreign operations looked like they might go to Magna, but the British and French are objecting because jobs would be lost in plants in their countries if production was concentrated in Germany. The outcome is uncertain.

Saturn is closing as GM concentrates its manufacturing in fewer factories as a cost-cutting measure; it is unfortunate that jobs at the Saturn factory will be lost as operations are closed down, but the closure is necessary.

The statement that GM had a "99% approved electric car" is nonsense; they are working on hybrids, but never planned a 100% electric, although those operating our coal-fired generating plants would have applauded.

A load-carrying car that can travel reasonable distances without use of petroleum is still years in the future. There is no infrastructure for hydrogen or other proposed fuels.

Snowjob.

So... GM loses a bunch of $ thru poor practice... gets $Bs from us... closes plants and also sells stuff off to highest bidder... at NO cost to us.

It just don't add up, Q.

Perhaps arguable in a way but I doubt the Chinese paid full price.

I understand the marketing name of the Tengzhong company is being changed to Ho and their first version of the Chinese Hummer will be called the Ho-Hum!

Indeed, Greg. One of the ultimate planet killers. A gas guzzling status symbol. Hopefully, the new owner will make it better. Seems to be sommat that happens a lot... I can't fathom why anyone would buy a Jeep Wrangler over an FJ Cruiser except for "Buy American" or as a status thing or a "one of the sheep" thing.

Digression-
FJ developed a bad reputation on the Canadian prairies because it was hard to start in winter, and other winter-related problems.
Both FJ and Wrangler have 4 litre 6 cylinder motors, not economical, but with the power needed for off-road and mountain driving.

The Wrangler outsells the FJ because of the bad winter reputation of the latter and also because of its higher recommendations for off-road driving in reviews. The Wrangler also has many more models, from the basic at about $21000 to the top Rubicons at $33000 or so.

Here in Calgary, the FJ is rarely seen, but Toyota RAV models are common, and the new 4WD model with the 3.5 litre six cylinder motor is selling well, 21 City, 28 Hwy.

According to U. S. government figures, the FJ gets slightly better gas mileage in the basic models, FJ 17 city, 21 Hwy; Wrangler 15 City, 19 Hwy. The Wrangler is heavier.

All car companies are in trouble; Toyota has lost money for almost two years. Loss expected for 2009 is $550 billion; loss for 2008 was $432 billion. (www.bloomberg.com, their website).
Last month, Toyota sales dropped 34% in the U. S. and 23% in Japan. Toyota may consolidate models to cut costs.

Hard to believe, but if Q said it, it must be true. Right?

Hard to start? Block heater.

What other winter related probs?

Reviews? Toyota 4X4's outsell every other one on the planet.

More models? Okay. A cheap version of a cheap tin can is cheap. I understand.

Now... same price... Jeep does not have an auto tranny, air conditioning, air filter system, and it's so narrow, you can't put your left arm down without hitting the door, and so on...

Oh, and, a 4X4 without a gas cap cover? No gas cap cover? It's supposed to be a mud machine and it DOES NOT EVEN COME WITH A GAS CAP COVER? What a piece of shit! Toyaota has a gas cap cover. It only makes sense... but, yuppies don't have any sense so... let's ask the governemt for taxpayers dollars... they are ALL idiots... hahahaha.... all the way to the bank.

And, if anyone thinks that is a load of hooey... well, you are in denial on accounta GM and Chrysler DID get bailouts from taxpayer money... LOTS of it... because there are a lot of peeps out there who want a gas cap cover as not everyone lives in fuckin Florida.

Nearly all cars sold in Alberta and Saskatchewan and NWT are fitted with block heaters; including the FJ. Not ever having experience with them, I only know what I have read. Problems included windshield cracking in winter, cold interior, poor access for rear seat passengers. On the other hand, I don't know anyone (several people I know have them as a second car) with complaints about Toyota RAV models, made by the same company.

Toyota's losses are cited in all financial articles; the figures came out last week. Don't take my word; read the news and you shall learn. I linked Bloomberg, but NY Times, Financial Times, etc., have the same story. The BBCnews financial segments are one of the best for capsule information; internet as well as cable.

Of course... I ain't buyin no Toyota.... nor any Chinese Hummer, no matter how good they make it.

Then again, I ain't buyin no overpriced tin cans needer.

And,apparently I ain't buyin any Fords... they jacked the prices way up and lowered the rebates after they put the screws to the competition.

My 11 year old Ford pickup will have to stay in the driveway until the madness stops.

And seriously Donnie, I luv ya' and all and admire your passion but......That crushing the electric car thing is pure bullshit.

Saw a trash of hybrids on The Discovery Channel... unreal... the hybrid car is complete crap on a life cycle basis at present according to the facts and figures given, and environmentally a disaster at present.

I have nopt researched any of it myself... just reporting what I saw on the TV, but it made sense and it's what I have thought all along. Unless they come up with new technology, what they are selling now is simply a money grab from the gullible.

Eleven year old pickup? My Cherokee is fourteen year old and still good. Your pickup should last a few more years.

Most cars, if taken care of with regular maintenance, last 15-20 years without requiring criplingly expensive repair. Having the rear seals replaced and key lock assembly replaced have been my major expenses. I had a 1980 pickup that I gave to a son with a country place and he is still using it to haul his garbage and for similar tasks.

Curious, I looked up the Hummer on U. S. govt. figures. the 5 cyl, 3.7 litre rates 14 City, 18 Hwy; the 8 cyl, 5.3 litre rates 13 City, 13 Hwy.
I see a lot of pickups here have the 5.3 l motor; don't know why they are popular. The Ford Explorer F-150 pickup with 4.6 l engine gets 14 City, 19 Hwy; I see them fairly often too.

I agree, no sense in replacing a good older vehicle with a new one, hybrid or not. It takes a lot of materials and energy to build a car.

I saw an interesting photograph of a recent military parade in Beijing - female soldiers marching in red miniskirts and white go-go boots. IMHO, buying the Hummer represents a similar grasp on reality. 'Course, the girls WERE better looking than any Hummer I've ever seen...
