Mudcat Heroes (the truth, but BS)

I know this is going to embarrass some people and will likely infuriate at least one, but I thought it worthwhile to give recognition to a few people who deserve it. This is by no means an exhaustive list, and I hope others will add to it. I will refrain from naming those already granted sainthood in the Mudcat religion (I guess saints outrank heroes) although some of you will likely think they are worth mention here as well. Here are my first nominees:

The Fighting the Good Fight award goes to Big Mick for his valiant struggle to save the labor movement.

The Humanitarian award recipient goes to (imagine envelope being torn open) Night Owl for her work in rescuing souls lost in some emotional terra incognita.

The Indomitable Humor award (aka the Grace Under Pressure award) is shared by Art Thieme and Catspaw.

Here's a special list of recipients of the Friend in Need award: Helen, Bert, Leej, Katlaughinginembarrassment, Frank in the Swamps, and Big RiB.

Come on, guys: don't let the forces of darkness dominate the cafe. Turn the lights on again. --seed

My award for Mudcat hero goes to The Shambles - for always having the guts to stand up for what he believes in, however unpopular he thinks it may be. He's also been known to stand up for what other people believe in - if he thinks they are right but too shy to do it themselves. Ta, Shambs!!

My awards for patience & dedication go to Joe Offer & Alison - both most likely to either have the answers or spare precious time looking up or transcribing things.

SueH beat me to it, they get my nomination for the same reasons.

I've thought a lot on what to write,
Who to laud and who to slight,
I'd fill the Mudcat's memory banks,
With names of those I owe my thanks,
Him for this/her for that,
Mostly all who write the 'Cat.

Thanks for that, Jeri. This thread disturbs me a little. Although there are certainly those who work harder & put in more time, we each have our part in making the Mudcat whole. We need to celebrate all!

with my thanks,

There are so many Mudcatters who have made contributions, whether music, BS, relevant issues, etc., and I would hate to slight anyone, therefore, g-d bless us everyone ... moonchild

When I started this thread I was thinking of people whose contributions were not limited to places within the Mudcat, and I'd like to add Chet W. to the list for the Humanitarian award for his work trying to bring light into lives filled with darkness (not a racial statement). I know there are many others who deserve this award for similar and varying reasons, and I hope you will nominate those you know, and make up other appropriate awards.

I'd also like to add Winters Wages to the Friend in Need thread and indicate that that is an award having to do with a personal problem of mine and is in no way meant to be a list of all the people I love and respect in this community. In a very real way, the entire membership qualifies for that award, as you have all greatly enriched my life--giving me songs, information, or just the time of day, making me laugh or bringing tears to my eyes, challenging my intellect and my imagination, and giving me an excuse to work on my typing skills... --seed

BSeed - I didn't mean to say I thought there was anything wrong with the idea behind the thread. Public thank-yous are wonderful. It's just that in my personal experience, there have been too many people who've helped me out in too many ways. People who've helped with songs, made me feel welcome here and in person, given advice, passed music I've written on, given me the opportunity to answer a question or two and feel like I've helped, asked me what I meant by a comment instead of jumping on me, rescued me from a seriously drunk/weird person and sometimes just told stories, jokes or shared a tune where I could read it.

I'm glad you clarified the thread to mean something besides a popularity contest to see who will get the most votes.
Now with that light illuminating and since I don't know what all the mudcat folks do or have accomplished, but two comes to mind as a major contributors to the Folk Music in this country. Sandy and Caroline Paton have been running the neatest little record company that comes second to none as far as being dedicated to folk and folk related music. Thus giving struggling songwriters, musicians a way to vend their music. Priceless dedicated spirit to the arts. Three cheers and a free round of drinks for everyone the next time I'm at the Mudcat Tavern. I quit drinking years ago, good thing, I'd probably be 86'd anyhow.

I didn't think that people like the spamming troll actually existed. Amazed.
