Tech: Where is everybody?

I see the Cat is up, but nobody's home. So I thought I'd post this to see if it showed up as a thread...

Now I see everything looks back to normal. It was just that the page furniture was there, but there were no threads showing at all. I was a bit worried lest Max's refit might have imploded.

Appreciate Max putting all of the October 15th threads back up, so that conversations can continue where they left off.

Thanks to Max. It's a little early in the season for Pennsylvania to get knocked out by Winter but Winter in Pennsylvania was one of the reasons I moved to Virginia. Stay warm Max. If it starts this early, it could be a long cold Winter in State College. Somewhere back around '95 there was 6 inches of ice on everything, trees falling over from the weight etc. Hope you don't get that again.

Sandra, just because you're paranoid, it doesn't mean they're NOT out to get you!

I was getting a little panicky too; this came on, by coincidence, with a bunch of peskiness I've been getting in the form of warnings that various websites have a certification-of-security problem, which I think is just a screwup for at least the most part. I was afraid that some crap in my software was blocking the Cat.

This was a no warning 3 day power cut due to freak snow storm. Now that the servers not at Max's house and is in the land of winter storms and downed power lines, there is no way to put up a waring.

However there is a Mudcat Cafe Facebook group where we can sometimes find out what is happening when the cat is down.

If there were a really handy way for Mudcatizens to pay (voluntary) regular taxes to maintain our favourite cyber-playground, I wonder if Max and the other volunteers could afford to backup the site on another computer at a different place so the Mudcat Cafe wouldn't have to close unless both computers got knocked out at once. Well, I guess that should be in a Support the Mudcat thread.

This was a no warning 3 day power cut due to freak snow storm.

Which explains why, over the weekend, I couldn't get the computer system at Melbourne's State Library to load Mudcat. I had thought it strange and wondered.

All power to Max's elbow!

Thanks, Sandra. I'll bookmark the FolkInfo forum above, or Joe Offer's perennial Mudcat Down thread there, in place of my defunct Mudcat Annexe link (http://jonbanjo.com/forum/default.php) which used to be the place to get info until the 'cat came back.

Jon created 2 sites - The Annex, a non-music site now closed & Folkinfo, a site for research on songs.
