For all Richard Dyer-Bennet fans on the list--my biography of Richard Dyer-Bennet has been accepted for publication by the University Press of Mississippi. The book should appear in the Fall. If you have questions, contact me at paul_jenkins@mail.msj.edu

Thanks, POJ

My biography of Richard Dyer-Bennet (Richard Dyer-Bennet: The Last Minstrel, published by the University Press of Mississippi) is now available from amazon.com.

Please forgive the shameless self-promotion.

Thanks, POJ

POJ,

Warm congratulations for your biography and its publication. Of high interest, DB was a fascinating figure in the folk revival.

And I know from personal experience how good it feels to finally see it done and out there.

Looking forward to reading it!

Best wishes,

Bob

Don't apologize for "self-promotion." This is news that belongs here. Congratulations on a great accomplishment. Here's the book's U-Miss Press page.

Dyer-Bennett taught speech to my wife in the late-70s, when she was a theatre major at the State U New York--Stony Brook. She knew nothing of his folk music background until she learned about it from me, 15 years later.

a paperback edition of THE LAST MINSTREL is now available ($30 list).
for those interested and for whom the $50 price for the hardback edition was a bit steep. Well worth reading!
Best wishes, Thomas.

When Paul O. Jenkins posted the original post, I went straight to Amazon and ordered the hard-back. $50.00 list, but Amazon was selling it for $45.00. Got it hot off the press.

Most interesting! Among other things, great pictures, including one of Dyer-Bennet singing with Leadbelly.

I had the pleasure and privilege of meeting and talking with Dyer-Bennet on two occasions, once in 1957, then again in 1962. Very personable, and he was quite encouraging about my ambitions as a singer of folk songs, or "minstrel."

I found the distinction he drew between a folk singer and a minstrel or troubadour to be quite valuable and enlightening.
