As you probably checked, the Old Dude last posted on October 14 where he exhorted us to "have a good week". Is it possible he can't tell time?

I just had a PM from him earlier this week. This place just gets to be too much sometimes.:-)

Not to put down anyone else's reaction, but I think I have finally learned that the only thing I can control is my own reaction. To me, the Mudcat is a valuable resource/outlet/connection that I won't give up- and see no reason to.

I'd say that's what olddude is doing, Ebbie. For starters, he didn't start a "goodbye" thread. Dan is happy to keep in touch via email; send me a PM if I can help anyone with that. Perhaps this thread can fade away?

I agree, Maeve.

I think Dan would probably like this thread closed but not deleted; we're in touch often (he lives not "too far" away) and I also can pass stuff along. Except messages urging him to "come back"-- I don't want to pass anything like that along.

He knows what is working for him.

Closed? I can't see that being a problem.

Well Dan, we've all been there, and if you want to stay away, do so.
There's always Facebook and the like. Even PM's ;)
Best wishes to you whatever you decide, you're one of the good guys.

Gnu asked me to deleted this, and as he's the originator, I feel I can honor this wish.

Dan's membership is gone. PM's won't work and I don't believe he plans on coming back. If you believe you're his friend, you'll likely be able to contact him some other way,

I deleted Dan's membership at his request. I have to say that I share his disillusion with the prejudice and nastiness that is so pervasive at Mudcat these days. Even though some Christians have done horrible things in the name of their faith, that's no justification for the overall prejudicice against Christianity that exists at Mudcat. And even though I'm sure that it is righteous to oppose the BNP, the nastiness at Mudcat in the name of righteousness - is still nastiness. Think about those things - no, I'm not going to open that for discussion, because it will just get nasty and bigoted all over again. Dan is not the only one who has abandoned his Mudcat membership because of the bigotry and nastiness here. I don't know how these things can be resolved, but I wish they could be.
