Ah YES, at last. Me tape wore out years ago.

Oh, one night in a bar I was having a jar,
When me destiny did beckon
For a vision burst in on top of me thirst
And flattened me pint in a second
Twas a lady fair with short blond hair
And her beauty would shame all queens
With her glistening lips and her twisting hips
And her schlim fittin' Levi jeans.

I schlid offa me stool, observed me first rule
I checked me flies and me fawn-ya
And got ready for a story of glitter and glory
Like Diarmuid agus Grainne
Well me opening line was "howya sunshine",
"how's it going? me name is John"
And with a toss of her head this Goddess said
"I'm Chantal De Champignon"

Brilliant stuff, you gotta get it

Fergus

BTW, for those who've never heard Brian live, there's a small sample at that site.

Received my copy from Custys and have spent the afternoon laughing, it is not just the words but the way he sends up certain styles of singing and excessive"decoration" had me in fits!! Well done that man, and many thanks to Finbar of Sharps Folk club for his introduction to the work of this Brilliant man!

Heard Brian singing a couple of times lately - it's amazing how well his songs hold up after, in some cases, many years. No matter how often you've heard them, there's always a point at which you just break down and laugh!

If you've never heard him - give yourself a treat and order the CD!

'Chantal de Champignon' is the most overrated Irish song ever.It just recycles the old clichés and stereotypes about Irish bachelors and foreign girls. It's missogenistic in the extreme and on top of that it's a downright insult to us girls, no matter where we're from.

Yours,

Gráinne Wail.

"Most overrated Irish song ever"? Lots of competition for that title, methinks. At least this one IS Irish!

Thats totally unfair. Its a brilliant song from start to finish. Its comedy gold and the rhymes in it are genius.

I agree with Gráinne Wail the cheek of that John fella claiming the blessings of the saints of Ireland on his sinful shinanyguns and I bet he never done it in his life only all bravado and blasphemy such a slur on all the decent batchelors of Ireland I knew dozens of them myself good erect Godfearing men with Pioneer pins and confession every Saturday night I could have had any one of them myself only for they were looking after their aging mothers no more than myself and whats funny about attempted suicide anyway answer me that ye cant so there
