06 Nov 09 - 06:44 AM (#2760693) Subject: Bracknell folk club launches Nov 17th From: GUEST,Muppet Chris I've taken the liberty of posting here Steve Primarolo's e-mail advising about the re-launch of Bracknell Folk club. I know he's put a lot of effort into finding a venue. Nice to hear of a club opening rather than closing. Dear Folks, Just when you were beginning to believe that it would never happen, Bracknell Folk is finally relaunching. We had been all set to go in September when the venue we'd found withdrew and whereas almost every pub in the land used to have a function room for everything from weddding receptions to stamp clubs, they're now as rare as hen's teeth. AT LAST This is it Every Tuesday night, starting on Tuesday, 17th November Bracknell Folk will gather at The Sun, 1, Chertsey Road, Windlesham, GU20 6EN from 8:30 p.m. For further details, please check out the website at www.bracknellfolk.org.uk We look forward to seeing you there. Regards, Steve Primarolo |

06 Nov 09 - 03:27 PM (#2761068) Subject: RE: Bracknell folk club launches Nov 17th From: GUEST,MUPPET CHRIS I'm not sure that under 6 miles can be called "knowhere near", unless you're walking of course. |

18 Nov 09 - 07:38 AM (#2768323) Subject: RE: Bracknell folk club launches Nov 17th (UK) From: Roger the Skiffler Best of luck! I was at Jagz where Blues drummer supreme Sam Kelly was giving a masterclass and jamming with the house band & visiting jammers. (NO I didn't dare take the Washboard of mass Destruction along!). He did recognise me from previous visits & sat with me for a chat during the break. 15 people there, we're buildign up numbers! Don't forget the John Martyn/Sandy Denny/Davey Graham tribute evening upcoming:see the Jagz website (www.jagz.co.uk) for details. RtS |
19 Nov 09 - 07:38 AM (#2769110) Subject: RE: Bracknell folk club launches Nov 17th (UK) From: Valmai Goodyear Good luck! Will it be all right to send Lewes Saturday Folk Club workshop leaflets to the Sun? The workshops last a full day and the tutor performs at the club in the evening, so people do travel from beyond London to attend. If not, could you PM me with an address to send them if you would be able to display them? All the best, Valmai |
20 Nov 09 - 06:08 AM (#2769692) Subject: RE: Bracknell folk club launches Nov 17th (UK) From: Roger the Skiffler Were you bumped from the Cellar bar at SHP to make way for Folking Live, which I see from the latest SHP brochure is on (with unspecified guests) 28 Jan, 25 Feb and 25 March next year. The jazz content of SHP "Jazz 'n' Stuff" for the Spring season also seems non-existent and the Blues Jammers don't get a mention either. Is SHP having a mass clearout? RtS |
22 Nov 09 - 11:14 AM (#2771117) Subject: RE: Bracknell folk club launches Nov 17th (UK) From: GUEST,Steve I'm told that SHP forced Bracknell Folk out of their old Saturday night spot which scuppered the club somewhat, then when the club was down, introduced Folking Live. They also only let us use the cellar when nobody else wanted it rather than offering it as a regular booking. The Recital Room on a Monday wouldn't have been the same, so we went looking for somewhere else. Bracknell's a bit of a desert, so after false hopes were raised over The Stag & Hounds at Binfield, we eventually found The Sun. Pubs with separate rooms, once the norm, are now like hen's teeth. A shame, because SHP's on my doorstep too, but let's make a go of it anyway. A full house last Tuesday with everything from dulcimers to digeridoos and people forced to sit outside the room. This time, we'll do without the tables to make more room for seating! |

29 May 10 - 04:29 AM (#2916441) Subject: RE: Bracknell folk club launches Nov 17th (UK) From: GUEST,Steve Getting it together at The Sun. Guest nights booked so far are:- 8/6/10 Skyport Ade's Pottingshed Band - guitar, violin, harmonicas - sounds sort of blue-grassy until you listen to the lyrics and find it's about white van man or something of the sort. 29/6/10 Terry 'Leadfingers' Silver - guitar, whistles, maybe even a banjo - Terry's been on the scene since Noah, so knows a song or two! 20/7/10 Mardi Grass - a change of pace this week with a blue grass band. 10/8/10 Ray Martin - singer/songwriter - if he's singing a straight song, the next chuckle is just round the corner. All guest nights include opportunities for floor singers. All other Tuesday nights are singers' nights anyway. Come along and join in or just enjoy. |
