From: Mr Red I am currently writing a few radio jingles for Stroud FM Folk Programme (7-9am Tues available as a live feed). so far I have used trad tunes (copyright demands) but any ideas welcome. They must be instantly recognisable and simple. I put pithy lyrics to them as station identification (or sponsors' fillip). Used so far are: English Country Garden Wild Rover Over the Hills & Far Away Amazing Grace Drunken Sailor Any other suggestions? |

From: MGM·Lion Don't know if this will be any help, but might give you some ideas of adaptable tunes of the sort you seem to want. Some years ago I was asked to play Amiens, the singing courtier-foreater, in a hippy-style production of As You Like It, doubling as musical director by setting the songs to traditional tunes. The ones I used were — Under The Greenwood Tree to the tune of The Gentleman Soldier; Blow Blow Thou Winter Wind to Here's Adieu Sweet Lovely Nancy; It Was A Lover And His Lass to The Little Beggarman; What Shall He Have Who Killed The Deer? to Hal-An-Tow; Wedding Is Great Juno's Crown to Kelvingrove (The Shearing's Not For You). |

I do have a couple of old Community Song Books, they have been useful. I only take some of the tune - maybe the chorus, say. 20 seconds is often enough to get the message over. 40 seconds is about the limit. And I am not only writing songs (discuss) again, but having fun. As I always say - you just dun gotta want to. And I haven't had the dun gotta lately, only the want. And I have been writing programs on my PC so the creative thrust has been in other directions till now. The local Soccer team sponsor the station, along with local governments and I haven't yet managed enthusiasm for the latter. Still Forest Green Rovers sort of presented a "jing" all by itself (for many's a year). Now how do I cuddle-up to Wheatley's the Printers? It is not working yet........... |
