I'd be fascinated to hear (read) just a little bit about who you are...and if you're only here on an assumed persona, that's just fine...I'm not really asking for the facts, ma'am, just what you're comfortable sharing...there is no "accuracy police" involved. And I'm glad to go first... I'm a middle aged male folkie - started playing guitar in 1961 (age 11) and wound up putting myself through college playing at the local coffee houses and bars in Iowa City, Iowa. Now I'm married with kids (one already grown) and still playing for fun. I started with Kingston Trio, moved to Tom Paxton, all the sixties folk, Bob Gibson, Chad Mitchell Trio, early Donovan,...well, you get the idea! And I've also noticed a great phenomenon...the last time I played "Colours" a young fiddle player (who was a member of MY bluegrass group!)came up and asked where I had ever heard such a cool song - he'd never heard it before. What once was old has become new again. Anyway, I'm a Midwestern USA guy, spent my years in Nebraska, Iowa, and Minnesota. Claim to fame? None, really...but Greg Brown is part of the group of folks I used to jam with in Iowa City...he wrote more songs than anyone else, but I was the first to tell him he was never going to make it if he didn't learn to enunciate a little better! Now I keep those kinds of opinions to myself. Music is just a hobby for me now, but it sure takes me to places you can't get to any other way...and I know you understand me! So, please. I see your names, and I read your threads, and I'm putting a little bit together as to who's who...but how about a quick catch up for me and anyone else who's just a little behind? Hmmmmm? |
