Skarpi, I'm sorry - I looked for the tune, but I can't find it. I did learn it was composed by Finbar Furey. I wish I could be more help.

Hi Skarpi,

Alison posted the Lonesome boatman - miditext file over a year ago, and further down there is an ABC file

http://www.mudcat.org/thread.CFM?threadID=4748#26196

It's a beautiful tune - puts shivers up my spine when I hear it.

Helen

P.S. What's happening with the volcano eruption near you?

skarpi...I will, indeed look for more about Iceland...I found one that had pictures, but no English words at all, so I did not post it..I think the News page is very interesting, and I will read it from time to time..(It said Katla last erupted in about 1918...I think maybe it waits to be sure you are not watching, then *boom*

ok...be careful...and when things shake, get hold of something..(like a drink and a musical instrument!..*grin*)

Skarpi,

Send me your snail mail address and I will send you an extra copy of "The Furey Brothers and Davy Arthur Songbook". The Lonesome Boatman is in it with many of their other songs. It is an extra and I would be very happy if you would allow me to make a gift of it to you.

Email me your mailing address at mlane@accn.org

All the best,

Mick

Skarpi,

I'd like to know more about Iceland. When I was at University I studied the Anglo-Saxon language, Old English language with mostly Germanic influences, and before the French and Latin influences.

I saw an Icelandic movie called "The House" about 10 years ago and I felt as if I could almost understand the words people were saying. I don't know if the languages are related. After seeing that movie I decided that one day I will go to Iceland. I will have to wait a while yet but I will definitely get there one day.

Helen
