Acoustic/singers' open nights from 6.15pm
This session is now in suspended animation for the foreseeable future
We had a good run and it was fun while it lasted, but in the nature of commuters and volatile working practices, some of the prime movers have, er, moved. Plus the landlady wants the room for a comedy night: so if you're in town on a Monday, you could do worse than pop into The Tup. But don't expect to sing many choruses!
All styles of unplugged (as in there is no amplification whatsoever) music welcome

Come and join in: bring your voices, instruments and/or ears

Free entry

There will generally be a "house" guitar available. Sometimes other instruments, too.

The Savoy Tup, 2 Savoy Street, The Strand WC2R 0BA. Click here for map - opens in new window

It's the perfect venue: quiet upstairs bar, not too big, not too small. It's at the north end of Waterloo Bridge so ideal for those commuting into Waterloo and Charing Cross. Handy for tube lines to everywhere else. End of The Strand adjacent to Covent Garden/Aldwych.

Excellent, friendly pub with great beers and dedicated upstairs music room.

Here are some quotes after the first one:
"bloody good fun !!"
"great pub, great beer, great evening"
"Thank you. A superb session in a marvelous venue."
"That was fun!"
"a great evening in a great little pub with friendly bar staff"
PM me with an e-mail address and I'll send you a reminder a few days beforehand.

Hamish,
I attended your session on the 11th.
I thought it was a very pleasant evening and will certainly make a point of attending the next time I am in London.

Good evening Hamish, especially the American lady whose name I didn't quite catch She's called Wendy Grossman. Yes, she's fab, isn't she?Lives in South-West London. I agree with you about the group at the table, it is refreshing to see people who have no knowledge of Folk music be so enthusiastic. I've sung in more than one pub where some young people are embarrassed to have live unamplified music sung in such close proximity.
I loved the comment by one youn man who came in saying "is this English folk music only I've only heard of Irish before"!! But he stayed and brought his girlfriend in later.

I understand that the last singaround at the Savoy Tup is this coming Monday. Does anyone intend going to this session? Just need to know whether to commute to London with my guitar. I know Linda is going to make it but we need some more.

I must admit I did really enjoy last night. A good session and some of the customers downstairs actually getting interested in what we were doing. With a bit more advertising and perhaps a more regular spot I reckon this would have continued. Thanks to Hamish for starting it off and Linda for the last months. Leadfingers see you at the Seven Stars next month.
