I'll be visiting Clearwater in Florida between 24th November and 6th December. Does anyone know of any music / singing activity in the area?

Thanks,

John

I don't live there anymore but I think this is a good group to start with:

While you're there take some some time to go up to Tarpon Springs for some good greek food and check out Ybor City in Tampa for Cuban dishes.

One of my first trips out will be to Tarpon Springs, it's a lovely place and the food is wonderful. I've not been to Ybor City but I'll check it out, thanks!

Not a music note, but don't miss Frenchy's Rockaway Grill in Clearwater Beach. Great place to watch the sunset on the gulf. Good Grouper Sandwich. http://www.frenchysonline.com/rock_index.html

If you or any of your friends smoke cigars then you will want to visit there. You can still find lots of places that hand roll them. I remember one eating establishment called "The Colombia" that had traditional flaminco dancers. Maybe they still do.There was a Colombia on Sand Key just south of Clearwater Beach but I don't remember them ever having dancers.

It's a performance, not a session. But if you like traditional music, you will like Richard Gilewitz, a guitarist and story teller.
Google his name for more info. He has a concert in nearby Bradenton about that time.

I believe he is one of the most talented musicians of our time.

Wow, thanks for the input folks!

I'm 'here' now (in Clearwater) and once the awful rain stops I'll be oot 'n aboot.

Many thanks once again - and if you come up with anything in the meantime I'll be listening.

Cheers,

John

Actually Amos - I DID attend a session there. It's wasn't folk music however. It was a performance by Chick Corea and Stanly Clarke. But the armed guards didn't let anyone wander around the building. That address is for the old Ft Harrison Hotel - where my high school rock band played one of it's few paying gigs. A sweet 16 party. Now it's owned by the Scientologists.
