Buena Vista Social Club

This afternoon I just saw the newly released documentary about Ry Cooder's recordings with Long forgotten Cuban musicians. It is magnificent. I can't recommend it enough! The 4P.M. showing was packed, and no one moved til all the credits had finished rolling. All in the audience were applauding. There is a sense of beauty and dignity which comes across in the film. I'll stop talking about it now, but if you see it playing near you, don't miss it.

Yeah. It just played for two nights in Wellington. Not to be missed. Great music, played by very old guys. But the real eye-opener for me was being able to see Havana-- which has been off-limits to Americans for so long. Haven't seen a 54 Pymoutth or a 51 Merc in ages!!

We had a thread on this 2 weeks ago, he said modestly, with the same advice -- great film, beautiful Havana scenes (need more of that in the film!). Musicians will love it, and citizens too.
