Singers inspired by Jon Campbell CD

Well, it was difficult to figure out just how to title this thread. But Marilyn Bellemore and Jon Campbell have produced a new CD of singers who have recorded the "Classic hits of Jon Campbell." Now some of you may not be familiar with Jon Campbell as a songwriter and performer. It may help to envision a Mark Twain character who somehow survived the psychedelic 1960's, or not! So what I'm saying is that some of you will be interested in hearing this CD titled "YEP, I SAID THAT." to find out how folks such as Robbie O'Connel, The Boarding Party, The Short Sisters, Pendragon, Shanghaied on the Willamette, Carl Thornton, Marc Bernier, Jody Gibson, and others (including myself) have covered Jon's songs. Others may just be interested in the songs which range from the Yachting shanty "Tangueray Martini-o" to "Frederick's of Galilee (or various other ports)."

Campbell is a keen observer of the human condition in all its phases and in the verdant or venial pools within which it thrives or demises. There is the spirit of revolutionaries as in "Eldred's One Gun Battery." There's "Catch & Release Whaling" for the environmentally concerned. There's "Foxwoods Polka" for addicted gamblers. There's "Quonset Hut" for solving the world's housing crisis. And "Keep on Fishin'" for those who love gallows humor or who actually earn their living in the fisheries. There is much more but I need another drink!

Copies of this CD may be found at your local supermarket or ordered from: campbellbellemore@yahoo.com.

Charley Noble

I believe the "guest" above to be Marilyn Bellemore, co-producer of the recording, and therefore the information is as good as it gets.

Tommy Makem (RIP) Opened the Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival with "Tanqueray Martini-o" several years ago. And everyone should try the "Providence Waltz" at least once. Hey! Didn't you used to go out wit' my cousin, hey right?

There are many all-time favorites on this CD, and sometimes several different interpretations. And I dare say there are depths to which Mr. Campbell's works have yet to be sounded.
