02 Dec 09 - 09:03 AM (#2778439) Subject: BS: Today's Saints From: Rapparee Today is the feast day of these saints: * St. Chromatius * St. Eusebius * St. Evasius * St. Lupus of Verona * St. Pontian But the Big Saint Of The Day is Bibiana. Here's a bit on how she met her fate: ...Apronianus [the Wicked Roman Governor], seeing that hunger and want had no effect...reserved [Bibiana] for greater sufferings. She was placed in the hands of a wicked woman called Rufina, who in vain endeavored to seduce her. She used blows as well as persuasion, but the Christian virgin remained faithful. Enraged at the constancy of this saintly virgin, Apronianus ordered her to be tied to a pillar and beaten with scourges, laden with lead plummets, until she expired. The saint endured the torments with joy, and died under the blows inflicted by the hands of the executioner. We should all endeavor to emulate her. I think she's the patron saint of masochists. |
