Comhaltas Christmas Ceili, Friday 4th December 2009,
St Michaels Irish Centre, Liverpool,
8.30pm

At the St Michaels Irish Centre on Friday 4th December there is a special Christmas Ceili organised by the Liverpool branch of Comhaltas (NB Pronounced Coal-tas). Comhaltas is an organisation that was formed in Ireland in 1951 in order to preserve and promote Irish traditional music and culture. It now has branches all over the world and the Liverpool branch was the first branch formed in England in 1957.

Comhaltas runs lessons in Irish Traditional Music at the St Michaels Irish Centre at the corner of Boundary Lane and West Derby Road in Everton every Monday during term-time from 6.30 to 8.15 and the proceeds of Friday's ceili will go towards supporting this work, including the North of England Regional Irish Traditional Music Championships which will take place this year at Broughton Hall School in Liverpool on Sunday April 18th, 2010.

There will be a band comprising some of the finest Irish tradtional musicians in the area and many of the young students will be performing as well.

Tickets are £3.50 from the St Michaels Centre, telephone 0151 263 1808. Doors open at 8.00pm and the music begins at 8.30. There is a licensed bar.

"Comhaltas (NB Pronounced Coal-tas)" From this can I assume that mh is always silent in Gaelic?

Not always - sometimes it's pronounced as a 'V', I understand, but I really don't know enough Irish to give you a proper answer.
