07 Dec 09 - 08:01 AM (#2782801) Subject: RE: BS: detox From: Will Fly Good luck with the smoking stopping. Did that around 1970 and never regretted it. I still like a dash of malt now and then but, if it's a problem, then good luck with that too. Keep busy, keep occupied. Don't think about them. :-) |

07 Dec 09 - 08:04 AM (#2782803) Subject: RE: BS: detox From: Crow Sister (off with the fairies) Wow, right before Xmas - lots of temptation about in the next few weeks! From my fellas experience, if you 'slip up' just don't give up giving up. My Mr. kept giving up and slipping then giving up again over and again, until he finally cracked it. |

07 Dec 09 - 09:44 AM (#2782868) Subject: RE: BS: detox From: catspaw49 No Sins.....Cigarettes do worse than kill you. Ask me. Ask Kendall. Good luck Mike......You CAN do it, All urges pass. Until I believed that, I never had any success. When all those urges hit you, just say "Fuck it......Urges Pass" and go right on doing what you were doing or go find something else to do. Substituting candy and gum and the like never worked for me because all the time I was chewing or eating I kept thinking, "This is my cigarette substitute." Didn't work for me until I told myself, "Urges pass." THey will.......No shit! Funny thing.......I smoked for almost forty years and the damage was already done but the thing I am proudest of is not the quitting.........its the fact that I have never had a single puff, not one single puff, since the day I said URGES PASS. Five years later I still get urges.....but URGES PASS. Good luck Mike.........Do whatever it takes even if you have smoked for a lifetime. Kick those fuckers in the ass!!! Spaw |

07 Dec 09 - 10:51 AM (#2782907) Subject: RE: BS: detox From: MikeL2 Hi Mike Best of luck with your abstentions.... Me....I never ever smoked....not one puff. Alcohol....that's another matter!!! lol But some years ago I contacted throat cancer....and in the next months I saw more doctors than I could have ever imagined. And do you know what every single doctor advised me ???? Stop smoking !!!!!¬! They said I had a throat like a heavy smoker. We put it down to passive smoking. Too many nights spent drinking and playing in smokey pubs and clubs. So you see smoking is the killer...don't listen to those who will tell you different.... Just do it !! Regards Mike |

07 Dec 09 - 05:52 PM (#2783297) Subject: RE: BS: detox From: GUEST,Hollowfox who needs to reset her cookie Midwest juju and a smokeless $#@!-reduction candle when I get home from work! 'Spaw, that's the best head advice I've ever heard (keeping busy is hand advice). I've had it pointed out to me by some smokers that the habit has become part of a routine. After sex is the movie cliche, but the smokers didn't mention that one; lighting up automatically with morning coffee was the example that got a lot of heads nodding. Just an observation, I hope it helps. |

08 Dec 09 - 07:19 AM (#2783637) Subject: RE: BS: detox From: Micca A friend told me years ago (UK) that the tricky bit was the Pub (before the universal ban on smoking in pubs) it seemed to be (for him) the natural accompaniment to drinking beer, Now they have banned it and made it an "outdoor, cold and wet activity" I hope it will help you, Thats, maybe the time when a Guitar in your hands to keep them busy will pay off!! Good Luck anyway, I dont smoke(except a good cigar aabout once every 2 years) But I do LOVE Single malts, but am fairly abstemious even with them. |

08 Dec 09 - 04:37 PM (#2784058) Subject: RE: BS: detox From: lefthanded guitar Try : drink water instead of smoking find something to do with your hands; a puzzle or crossword, knitting, solitaire with real cards,e tc. yeah guitar is great, but probably not at work see if you can find a support group, friend or online site to commisserate don't have coffee for a while, have tea instead. Or try a different ' flavor' coffee to quell the urge. Take your ciggie money and put in a box to reward yourself with a gift! Remember this: once the cravings are gone, you won 't miss this habit! It's easier than dieting b/c you NEED food, you don't NEED ciggies. Good luck, we're all with you. YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

09 Dec 09 - 03:45 AM (#2784441) Subject: RE: BS: detox From: Mavis Enderby I gave up smoking 5 years ago after many years of trying. Nicotine replacement therapy (patches) helped reduce the craving, plus the financial incentive of putting away the money otherwise spent on smokes for other treats. Nothing, but nothing though is better than being able to breathe and taste good, clean air again. Go outside on a cool morning and take in great lungfulls of it. Beats any smoke any day! Good luck Pete. |
