Hi Everyone,

Just to let you know that Swan Folk, Swan in the Rushes, Loughborough held its last Folk Club night on Sunday 13th December.
We were very fortunate at The Swan in the Rushes in having, probably, one of the best pub landlords a club could wish for . Thanks Ian, his staff and Tynemill
With our best wishes to you all for 2010.

Chris Flint

It is always sad to see the end of a favourite Folk Club and the Swan was part of our lives for more years that I care to remember. Rob Vic and Nic (thats me) had many lovely evenings there as Burdett Simpson and Young and when himself emigrated to Co Durham we had our "Gannin Home Do " there.
Litttle did we think that we would be singing with Jacky Lockley as Y N M at the closure of the Club
Our best wishes to Annie Chris and Tony for all that they did.
Perhaps the most amazing thing about the final evening was a truly moving tribute from Joe Toomey. For the very first time I could understand the moving tributes that he gave. Has the broken leg changed his speech pattern?

All the best Chris - thanks for running a fine club for so long.It doesnt seem long since I was there - but maybe last winter, on one of those stormy "dont travel unless you have to" nights - I rang up beforehand saying " Youre not really having the club tonight are you?" - but you did, and we had a pretty good night, considering.

Sad news indeed.

I didn't get there as often as I would have liked but it was always a good night when I did make it and some of the guests were fantastic. I'll never understand why festival concerts get packed out when you can catch many of the same artists at a local club in the much more intimate surroundings of an often surprisingly small audience and for a much longer set - thanks to the hard work of club organisers.

As a compulsive attendee at singarounds and clubs I know the debt I owe to people like Chris, Annie and Tony for all the work they put into running clubs for the rest of us to turn up to just when we feel like it.

Many thanks for all the years and why don't you enjoy yourself and let others take the organisational strain for a time while you enjoy yourselves singing?   I'm sure the Swan will be sadly missed and I'm sorry my own migration meant that I couldn't be there at the last stand.
