22 Dec 09 - 09:05 PM (#2794726) Subject: BS: Happy December 29th from BWL From: Bee-dubya-ell If you're like most people, you'll probably have a good number of people wish you a merry Christmas in the next few days. And you'll have a fair number of folks wish you a happy New Year a few days after that. And those of you who live in places where it's observed may even be wished a happy Boxing Day. And, of course, it's a given that holiday wishes include the days immediately before the actual holidays, Christmas Eve and New Years Eve. So, what we're basically saying here is that your standard holiday greetings cover five days: December 24, 25, 26 and 31, plus January 1. That leaves December 27 through 30 as days to which no standard holiday greeting applies. Of those days, December 27 is still sort of basking in the glow of Christmas, and December 30 is sort of warming up for New Years Eve, so one could almost call them "quasi-holidays". Of the two days left, December 28 and 29, the 28th falls on a Monday this year, and the Monday after a holiday is sort of a special day. It's a day we get to share holiday experiences with coworkers and bring leftover Christmas turkey for lunch. So, that leaves December 29th as the most neglected day of the holiday season. It is, indeed, the redheaded stepchild of both Christmas and New Years. It's claimed by neither and loved by none. The new has worn off of the kids' Christmas presents and the trash collectors have hauled off the last of the spent wrapping paper Just imagine the pain poor December 29th feels as it watches all the feasting, drinking and merrymaking going on around it! And there it is, stuck in the middle of the week between the binges, where the most festive thing that might occur is someone calling Domino's for a pizza. Well I, for one, just couldn't let it be ignored again this year, so I'm taking the initiative and wishing everyone a Happy December 29th ! |

23 Dec 09 - 08:17 AM (#2794928) Subject: RE: BS: Happy December 29th from BWL From: Bee-dubya-ell I'm sorry for you misfortune, Wyrd Sister. You see, since it's your birthday, that makes it special to you (and also to the other roughly eighteen million people who happened to be born on that day). So, while the rest of us get to bask in December 29th's glorious mediocrity, you have to treat if like it's something special. |

He always got the best birthday presents of any of us because my mother was working so hard to make him think that she didn't simply hold out one of his christmas presents to give him on his birthday that she always gave him something over-the-top for his birthday. I always remember his birthday as the christmas present the rest of us didn't get. :-/ SRS |
