I will have to add "The Wall" to my Veterans Day songlist.

This is great news! As Don would certainly confirm, I was the first one to offer him a booking on the East Coast many years ago. I haven't heard of him in years...

Don has been making wonderful wine in Oregon for many years. Great to see this new CD is out. (There was a fine one only about 2 years ago too.)

On my first LP album, in 1975, I was honored to include the first ever recording of Don Lange's fine song called HERE'S TO YOU ROUNDERS.

Here's to you rounders and here's to you railroad bums,
I'm hoping that you make it home soon,
Here's to the women who married for love,
And lived with the man in the moon!

The folk bar that Peter and Lou Berryman used to play at all the time in Madison, Wisconsin was called Club De Wash I think. I was hanging out there having a beer once a long time ago and a fellow came up with tears in his eyes to say that my doing that song of Don's had saved his marriage. That was at least 25 years ago--maybe 30 years---but I'll always remind myself of the power of a good song by recalling it every so often.

Never knew my granddad he was always on the bum
the Salvation Army they sent us a note when he died
Now me and my brother we carry the memory of a face we never did see
like some foreign coin that get lost in the pocket of a young boys faded blue jeans

Here's to you Rounders !!

an superb song for sure

I just realized that Don sent me a copy of this CD a while ago and I didn't recognize the title of it. Disregard my earlier post here about a previous recent CD issue of Don's. --- This IS the one I was alluding to.

It's a great one!!

Thanks so much for the heads-up, Dude - I love Don Lange's music. I'm also interested to learn that Art was the first to record Here's To You Rounders, a long-time favourite of mine. I first heard someone sing it in a folk club in London, and loved it so much I wanted to learn it. I managed to contact Don (c/o Sing Out mag, I think) to ask him for the words, and received the loveliest most gracious reply from him - along with a written-out copy of the song.

It became a staple of my repertoire, and when in turn I sang it, people were particularly struck by the chorus. One bloke came up after the gig and begged me to write those four lines out for him (which I did) so he could put them in his commonplace book. The endless power of poetry to communicate to people in their most secret places, and to renew itself...

I'm so glad Don is thriving in Oregon. I used to visit my late mother there, and loved the place.

Bonnie,
43 years ago, Carol and I headed out in a VW van from Chicago with a small inheritance -- and we knocked about the USA hitting almost every state in those first 3 years we were married. We settled on the Oregon coast and learned to love the area---the low tides that were filled with more kinds of alien life forms than a searcher for extraterrestrial life will ever imagine. -- Jan 3, 2010 is our 43rd wedding anniversary. All of it comes flooding back as fond memories of youth and adventure and love.
Bonnie, I think I'd like your music!

Cheers, Art - thanks for your interesting post. In fact, January 3rd is my birthday (not saying which one...) so congratulations on your four+ decades together.
