Irish Pirate Ballads - Indie Awards

Happy to report that Smithsonian's Irish Pirate Ballads , released earlier this year, is one of 5 recordings to receive a nomination in the Indie Music Awards "World Traditional" category.

There are 13 songs and the full cast is outstanding:

Robbie O'Connell (The Clancy Brothers, The Green Fields of America) - vocals
Mick Moloney (The Johnstons, The Green Fields of America) - vocals, tenor banjo, mandolin
Susan McKeown (2007 Grammy-winner for Wonder Wheel) - vocals
Joanie Madden (Cherish the Ladies) - whistle, flute, contraflute
The Johnson Girls (Folk-Legacy Records) - vocals
John Doyle (Solas, The Green Fields of America and Joan Baez) - vocals, guitar, bouzouki
Gabriel Donohue (Toured with The Chieftains) - mandolin, bouzouki, guitar, piano
Brian Conway (All-Ireland fiddle champion) - fiddle
Bob Conroy (Stout) - 5-string banjo
Tim Collins (Kilfenora Ceili Band) - anglo concertina
and me, Dan Milner (a/k/a Liam's Brother) - vocals.

You can listen to track samples and look at the liner notes at Smithsonian's Irish Pirate Ballads .

Smithsonian tells me there are actually two awards in this category. One conferred by industry professionals and the other a popular vote award. They sent along the Indie Awards webpage with the request that I spread the word. The page is Indie Awards Ballot

If you know people who like Irish music and who might enjoy voting in this contest, perhaps you could pass the suggestion along. Thanks in advance.

All the best,
Dan Milner

Congratulations, Dan! Very well-deserved!

I picked up this CD at Irish Week at Augusta this summer and really love it. It's on regular rotation in my car.

I picked up a copy from Dick Greenhaus at Getaway and it's a fine recording, deserving a nomination.
