Jay is OK, but two people were killed in one of the fires. State and federal authorities have joined the investigation, but that is all that I know at this point. --- Steve |

Any fire was always very scary because all of the houses are so old, dry, and near to one another. This is a horrible thing to have happen. My son was just back there visiting friends the end of October. I am waiting for him to get home to let him know. He still has a lot of friends there, almost all involved in music. His house was torched, but thank to the quick response of the Northampton Fire Department, he was able to rescue his CD collection. --- Steve |

Here's this from the Boston Herald: The United Way of Hampshire County also hopes to raise at least $20,000 for families affected by the fires, and the Red Cross is accepting money, clothes and other donations. I am sure you'd probably find more in the Hampshire Gazette (the paper in Noho) and/or the Facebook group. |

A friend of mine escaped his home with his son and his life but lost everything. Last I knew no one had been charged. One hell of a New Year gift. Glad they are safe. |

The community is breathing a sigh of relief. The spooky thing though is that the man is just an ordinary guy, who grew up here, seems normal and friendly and not at all unusual. In a way this is more unsettling than finding some crazy person, drug addict, or hate-filled weirdo. Let's hope this is the end of he story. --- Steve |
