Wassailing in Willesden Green

Sunday 17th January
Wassailing in Willesden Green, London
A Song and Story Walk down the High Street.
Meet at 2.30pm sharp at Willesden Green tube.

I'm a WG resident and was brought up on the folk scene. Last year I was most envious of all the rural wassails around the country, so I hope you can join me for my own, which I am taking down the High Street as Wassailing seems a great symbol for local businesses in the cold heart of the Crunch, as well as for trees in the cold heart of winter.
Because it's my brainchild, there's no funding, just appreciation and cups of wassail and hot chocolate at the end of it!

I've got 5minute spots for accomplished acoustic performers.
Also seeking a grand finale who can sing and play Wassail tunes if possible.
And drummers to accompany us as we walk through WG.
Please email willesdengreenwassail@gmail.com
willesdengreenwassail@gmail.com
Or just turn up to join us for fun!

Not all performers will be folk performers as we are trying to represent the local High Street, but there will also be a traditional Wassail chanting as we plant a new tree at Willesden Green Library.

All my thanks and best wishes,

Rachel

Wassail to your Wassail. Regret can't come as no longer live in London; but first three years of my life [1932-35] were lived at 12 Helena Road, on S boundary of Gladstone Park: so have a sort of distant fellow feeling for such goings on around those parts even unto this day!

Of course there won't be any Jubilee line trains stopping at Willesden Green tube on 17 January, only rail replacement buses - the line is closed between West Hampstead and Stanmore for works that weekend, likewise the Met and Circle lines between Aldgate and Baker Street.

Indeed I thank you for reminding me Herga Kitty. Scuse the caps, it's a quick copy and paste job:

ON 17 JANUARY JUBILEE LINE WILL BE REPLACED BY BUS SERVICES.
METROPOLITAN LINE TRAINS WILL STOP AT WILLESDEN GREEN.
LOCAL BUSES INCLUDE 460, 260, 266 and 98.

Thanks for your kind words MtheGM :)

sounds interesting and worth making the trip for (despite the continuous weekend problems with London Transport)

Sounds like a great event. Our wassail here in baltimore usa is also not funded at all. I find it works just as well as events that remove money from people's pockets. We just have people donate food and drink. Always enough wood for a fire and everyone regardless of income or available cash can turn up. The best way to keep the custom going-=good luck.
