Waaay down near the bottom of the page that opens is an audio file of the song "Daddy's Little Cowboy". The machine I'm on has no sound so I can't listen and transcribe. Click on the DLC underlined title and you'll be whisked away to a media player and I'd guess both melody and lyrics.

hey it only took 12 years and 8 months...

DADDY'S LITTLE COWBOY
Tim and Glenn Spencer, Sons of the Pioneers

1. Here comes daddy's little cowboy. Isn't he a sight?
All dressed up in his western outfit, lookin' for a fight.
He packs a great big six-gun pistol, one that really shoots.
His spurs they jingle-jangle on his sho'-'nough cowboy boots.

CHORUS: Daddy's little cowboy, the toughest of galoots,
With his western hat, his six-gun gat and his sho'-'nough cowboy boots.

2. Here comes daddy's little cowboy, shootin' up the town.
He's got the rustlers on the run. He's 'bout to mow 'em down.
Before he goes to sleep tonight, he'll run 'em all upstairs,
Then lock 'em up in his bedroom jail, and make 'em say their prayers.

3. Come on, daddy's little cowboy. Lay that pistol down.
You shot up everything in sight. You've really mowed 'em down.
You've got the rustlers all in jail, and now they'll have to pay,
So come on, little buckaroo. It's time to hit the hay.

Yeah, he's daddy's little cowboy, all tucked away in bed
With his western hat, his six-gun gat, daddy's cowboy sleepyhead.

what's a "gat"?

i thought it was maybe a "get-up" or a costume>
but this makes little sense in context.

In case no one noticed, that is FESTUS HAGAN (co-star as deputy sheriff in GUNSMOKE)doin' the singing.

Ken Curtis was a member of the Sons Of The Pioneers, as well as
a big band singer way back when...

Another member of the SOP was Shug Fisher, who also played bumbling
roles on Gunsmoke...

the Tag ending was omitted above.

TAG:
Yeah, he's Daddy's Little Cowboy,
All tucked away in bed
with his western hat, his six gun-gat
Daddy's cowboy sleepy-head

A 'gat' is an older slangish expression for a gun. The term was made popular by James Cagney, Humphrey Bogart and the various 'gangster' movies from the pre-colour movie days. FYI

I should note that they are pre-colour movies to me because I saw them on a black and white TV until about 1985 when someone told me that colour television had been invented. I got real excited about that and bought one in 1994.

And while I'm talkin' about that stuff, I just heard there's some sort of tape thing out called VHS. 'Improvements' like this at such a fast rate will lead to no good, imo.

And then to top it off they developed a CD. I was thrilled, so I threw it on the ol' turntable and it not only wouldn't play but it also thoroughly buggered up the small record, scratched the thing all to heck and gone and ruined the needle. Sheesh, ya know?

"Gat" is slang for gun, probably derived from Gatling gun—although it is gross hyperbole to call an ordinary handgun a Gatling gun.
