Pee po belly bum drawers
Flanders & Swann (19??)

Originally from the album 'Tried by the Centre Court'.

Here's the published version - the lyrics were often changed to reflect topical events.

Ma's out, Pa's out-let's talk rude:
Pee - Po - Belly - Bum - Drawers!
Dance in the garden in the nude:
Pee - Po - Belly - Bum - Drawers!
Let's write rude words all down our street,
Stick out our tongues at the people we meet,
Let's have an intellectual treat:
Pee - Po - Belly - Bum - Drawers!

What kind of talk is the Dons' delight?
Pee - Po - Belly - Bum - Drawers.
What's on every newstand in sight?
Playboy - Belly - Bum - Drawers.
What TV comedy's loved the best?
What did Illingworth say at the Final Test?
What is Prince Philip's favourite jest?
Pee - Po - Belly - Bum - Drawers.

Danny La Rue's in a double bill:
Pee - Po - Belly - Bum - Drawers.
Christopher Robin meets Fanny Hill:
Pooh Bear - Belly - Bum - Drawers!
Kenneth Tynan has given his all
And in Oh Calcutta they have a ball ...
'Cause the higher the brow the harder they fall:
Pee - Po - Belly - Bum - Drawers.

Ken Russell's filming in Regent's Park
Pee - Po - Belly - Bum - Drawers,
Full Frontal Composers, Bach to Bach
Pee - Po - Belly - Bum - Drawers,
From the folk-song scene to the world of Pop
They get their words from the Porno Shop-
Things seem to start where they used to stop
With Pee - Po - Belly - Bum - Drawers!

This was used for a recent TV Documentary on Mary Whitehouse.... :-)

Another version...

Ma's out; Pa's out; let's talk rude!
Pee Po Belly Bum Drawers.
Dance in the garden in the nude,
Pee Po Belly Bum Drawers.
Let's write rude words all down our street,
Stick out our tongues at the people we meet,
Let's have an intellectual treat
Pee Po Belly Bum Drawers.

Sunday again on CBC,
Pee Po Belly Bum Drawers.
And Norman Mailer is coming to tea,
Pee Po Belly Bum Pants!
Allen Ginsberg reads on and on,
But we're having a happening when he's gone,
Come to the party in the john,
Pee Po Belly Bum Drawers.

Disney's planning a double bill,
Pee Po Belly Bum Drawers.
Christopher Robin meets Fanny Hill,
Pooh Bear Belly Bum Drawers.
On stage and screen we can all work hard,
Throwing toilet rolls in our own back yard,
Who's afraid of the avent garde?
Pee, Pee, Po, Po, Belly, Belly, Bum, Bum, Pee Po Belly Bum Drawers.

What gets the prizes and wins awards?
Pee Po Belly Bum Drawers.
What did Prince Philip tell the Lords?
(Well, never mind that.)
At Oxford and Cambridge, and Yale and all,
And at Berkeley, they really have a ball,
'Cos the higher the brow, the harder they fall,
For Pee Po Belly Bum Drawers.

BTW, I checked out Wikipedia for Flanders and Swann, and their entry has Bowdlerized this title
from "Pee po belly bum drawers" to
"P** P* B**** B** D******"...

which just proves how useless a pile of censored crap Wikipedia really is for Genuine Research ... :-)

Haha - my spelling checker suggest for Wikipedia - Impedimenta !!!

Allmusic.com also lists the song title as P** P* B**** B** D******. It's listed that way on two albums: "The Bestiary of Flanders & Swann" (1964) and on "The Complete Flanders & Swann" (1994).

Allmusic.com is not given to the use of euphemism. They list 50 recordings named FUCK, 244 named FUCK YOU and so on.

Amazon.co.uk also lists it as P** P* B**** B** D******.

I'm rather sure Flanders and Swann wanted their song to be listed that way.

If you ask me, songs that use euphemism, metaphor, circumlocution, double-entendre, etc., in a creative way are nearly always much funnier than those that use flat-out obscenities.

Therefore the clever use of euphemism (etc.) is more likely to be the deliberate choice of the original songwriters than evidence that someone else has expurgated the song.
