30 Jan 10 - 08:56 PM (#2826029) Subject: Lyr/Chords Add: TAKE ME TO THE LAND OF JAZZ From: GutBucketeer I've been working on "Take me to the Land of Jazz" (Edgar Leslie / Bert Kalmar, 1919) for a while. Lowe Stokes and his North Georgians recorded an amazing version which is supposed to include the first recorded example of country flatpicking. It's Awesome. Here is the link to the file on Box.net http://www.box.net/shared/nozfvovq0c Anyway, I tried to work out the chords from the original sheet music (at the Lester Levy collection) and transposed them from Bb to C. They don't sound exactly right to me. Especially the Am at the end of the first line. What do you guys think? |

Anyway, our band does it in G and we have these chords: A7 / D7 / G / / / (no minor!) A7 / D7 / G / / / C#dim7/ / / C#dim7/ / / A7/ / / / D7 / / / A7 D7 G A7 D7 G G / / / G / / / / A7/ / / D7/ / / G / / / /G / / / A7 / / / a7/ / / D / / / D / / / A7 / / / D / / / G / / / G / / / C / / / B7/ / / A7/ / / A7/ / / D7 / / / D7 / / / G / / / E7/ / / A7 / D7/ G / / / What do you think? |

10 Feb 10 - 01:59 PM (#2835200) Subject: Chords Add: TAKE ME TO THE LAND OF JAZZ From: Mick Pearce (MCP) Here's a fairly complete set of changes from the Levy sheet music (in the sheet music key of Bb). The dim7 chords I've generally named according to the bass in the sheet music piano part, though playing it through on the guitar I've often used one of the other notes as bass. Similarly the Bb/Gm/Bb could be just Bb. 02 Feb 12 - 05:03 AM (#3300682) Subject: RE: Chord Req: Take Me to the Land of Jazz From: Mick Pearce (MCP) OP's states that the chords were an attempt at the chords from the sheet music, which he transposed from Bb to C. The chords I gave were a fuller set from the sheet music left in Bb (probably not exactly how I'd play on the guitar - they reflect the changes in the piano accompaniment and I'd simplify a bit for guitar). The Lowe Stokes version in F uses the same tune and a simplified transposition of the same chords Mick |
