Just a note to make UK folk aware that Ryburn 3 Step's Chris Coe provided the hammer dulcimer sounds in the music for tonights docu-drama about Mo Mowlem.
UK Channel 4 @ 9pm

Starring Julie Walters and with music arranged by Nick Hooper, the programme has already received some strong reaction.

Background to the film here..

Slight thread drift admittedly but I have an abiding memory of Mo in a singaround at Northern College singing Jack Warshaws 'If They Come in The Morning' Wonderful happy memories.

Definitely catch a repeat if it appears...(Should be DVD) Juli Walters bravura performance of the Northern Ireland secretary is extraordinary. Chris' subtle playing, especially as Mo was getting nearer the end of her life is just haunting.
Mos retort to Martin McGuiness, and Jerry Adams at a meeting was priceless.
"Take your dicks off the table, and we'll start the meeting again!"
(but as this is in the music bit. Chris Coes playing is wonderful (if uncredited sadly)

It always irritates me that the musicians for TV programmes don't get credited. Everyone else, down to the person who wipes the 2nd unit's assistant electrician's mate's arse, seems to get a credit. Wrong union, I suppose.

It was an excellent programme with strong performances all round. Recent events have put Tony Blair's parachuting in at the last minute to claim the credit for the Good Friday agreement in a new light - at the time it seemed he could do no wrong, how long ago that now seems!

I'd love to know the thought process at Channel 4 which went "Mo Mowlem - Northern Ireland - what we need is a hammered dulcimer!" Inspired choice, and choice of player, though.

Yes Howard...How did that happen??? Good choice though. In her own way Chris can be quite feisty too! (in a softer way! Woops!)

Howard - don't know about musicians in telly programmes, but a friend used to do time with the Worth Valley steam Railway mentioned the filming done there, from The Railway Children through to more recently.
His comment was that in general film companies tried to get something for nothing, and would offer a listing in the film credits instead of hard cash. The trustees of the railway preservation society always took the line (railway line?) that they were well enough known amongst enthusiasts that they didn't see a credit as particularly useful publicity. Cash, on the other hand would buy coal to fire the engines, materials for refurbishing engines and carriages and so forth.
Perhaps musicians not being listed might mean they are actually being paid for the privelige...

Quack!
