Dave Cooper well known at Fylde and in the Fleetwood area died suddenly on Monday having gigged the night before.

He was the front man for Captain Cooper's Motley Crew, and before that Woodbine Lizzie.

I was shocked to hear the news. Dave was a larger than life bloke, in every way. Not the word's greatest singer, but one of the best 'front' man that any band could want. Flyde eill be a duller place without him. God bless you Dave. R.I/P.

Dave was indeed a larger than life character, a great personality with a great presence wherever he went.

He was a good listener, generous with his time and a believer in fair play.

We will all miss his jokes and his hilarious stories about characters and experiences he has had in his life.

Our condolences to all his family and friends.

God bless Dave RIP.

This is not, I think, the Dave Cooper once (60s) of the Chap-men (a Sarf Lunnon vocal harmony band) is it? He later got into shape-music according to when I last spoke to him at Tenterden and was I think living in the Midlands.

A gentleman.

A good friend to us all in the North lancashire Jamming nights at Burton, Over Kellet etc

The last time I saw him was 27th December when I was sat with him and he sang "paddy's bricks", "D day dodgers" and "Fairy Tail of New York".

He will be missed.

Dave was my dad and was the finest man you would ever hope to meet.

As many of you have said he was larger than life and he always had a good tale to tell which is one of the things I loved the most and will miss the most about him.

Words cannot even describe what a great loss this has been to me, my family and Diane but we were lucky to have him for the 62 years that we did and for that we are grateful.

Dave sang so many songs that are special to me but to think of a few the ones that stand out are Black Velvet Band, Wild Rover, Whiskey in the Jar, Danny Boy and Fairy Tale of New York. I always loved watching him sing and always felt very proud to say "thats my dad"!

Love you Dave more than words can say. The Angels needed you and you answered their call.

Lots of love always

your old pal

Dave was a very special friend to our family, he and his motley crew performed at both our 50th birthdays and at our daughter's wedding last year and were due to play at our other daughter's wedding next year.
We hope the rest of the band can keep the date, but it's going to be so hard without the big man.
We are going to miss you so much Dave,
god Bless,
love and condolences to all his many friends and family

Dave was the definition of 'a legend'. We feel incredibly priviledged to have known him and shared a dear friendship.
Dave actually died on Tuesday 2nd Feb after a short illness. The funeral was held yesterday - the crematorium was packed and gave testament to what an amazing man he was, who had touched the life of every person there and many more. Heath, Paul, Pat and Roger played the tunes that Dave wanted. It was a moving service, followed by the wake which we know that Dave would have approved of! There was singing, playing, laughter and tears.
Diane and Hannah can always be proud of Dave and the joy he brought to all our lives.
We loved you Dave and miss you so much. We will always remember you.
Heather & Alan xxx

I've known Dave all my life and he brought me up into Irish music.
My mum was going to marry him many years ago but didn't and I am very sad that he died of a heart attack in hospital.

I was at his funeral and the amount of people who turned up could barely fit through the doors of the church.

A great man and a huge loss to many who knew him through the lifeboats, motorbikes and music.

RIP DAVE COOPER

Played with Dave for nearly 15 yrs, first with Woodbine Lizzie, then Motley Crew.
We lost Alan(Billy) Crowshaw,and John(Dutch)Holland.
Loosing Dave was like loosing a Father to me.A true professional. We made 3 albums and a single and I treasure them all.
My happiest memories was a habit we both had on New years Eve we would shake hands over the bonnet of the Volvo est. after the gig and wish each other a prosperous New year at usually 3.00am.
So glad i came to see you the day before you left us.
All my love
Al
