06 Feb 10 - 01:44 PM (#2831521) Subject: New Irish Tenor Banjo Forum! From: Ptarmigan Do you need a dedicated Irish Tenor Banjo forum? What do you think, is there a place for a site dedicated solely to the Irish Tenor Banjo? I'm in the process right now, of setting up a new networking site, especially for all players of Irish Music on the Tenor Banjo. So if you play your Irish Music on Tenor Banjo, why not check it out? The Irish Tenor Banjo Players at all levels of ability are very welcome to join & with your help, it could become a great wee place for Tenor Banjo enthusiasts to chat, learn & teach, without any of that old sniping that we often get from non Banjo players, who are sadly just not tuned in to the wonders of the Banjo! ;-) That's not to say that Banjo Jokes won't be allowed ... of course they will, but only good ones! :-D It is very much a work in progress, so please check it out, join up & give me some ideas on how the basic framework that's in place just now, can be improved upon. You will notice that the whole site can be explored, but you will not be able to set up your own Profile Page or post anything, until you have signed up. The Session will always be the first port of call for anyone interested in Irish Music, just as the Banjo Hangout is for all Banjo players. I suppose the Irish Tenor Banjo falls between those two stools & at the very least, members profile pages can be used as a home website, for members wishing to promote their Banjo talents to prospective customers. I look forward to hearing all forms of criticism but mostly I'm looking for good advice! ;-) I know you folks shoot from the hip, so if there really is no need for this site ................. I KNOW you will soon tell me! ;-) Cheers Dick |

07 Feb 10 - 01:49 PM (#2832251) Subject: RE: New Irish Tenor Banjo Forum! From: Will Fly Dick (Ptarmigan) - out of curiosity, is the Forum for all tenor banjos, regardless of tuning? I keep my tenor banjo and tenor guitar in what I call "standard" C-G-D-A tuning - like a viola. I understand that a lot of Irish stuff is often played using a different tuning on longer-necked instruments. And if "standard" tuned tenor banjos are allowed - do tenor guitars qualify? :-) |
07 Feb 10 - 03:32 PM (#2832350) Subject: RE: New Irish Tenor Banjo Forum! From: Ptarmigan Hi Will, Oh yes indeed, CGDA players are just as welcome as ye olde GDAE Dudes! After all, I can't imagine me telling the one & only Gerry O'Connor to P... Off! ;-) As for Tenor Guitars, I'd say if your playing Irish Music on yours, then I have no doubt loads of our members would be fascinated. So come in .... but wipe yer feet first! ;-) Cheers Dick |

21 Feb 10 - 01:38 PM (#2845925) Subject: RE: New Irish Tenor Banjo Forum! From: Ptarmigan Hi Anton, I'm not quite sure what you mean? So far our members have posted 127 Banjo photos, plus 154 Banjo Videos, which I reckon isn't bad going really for only 2 weeks. I personally think they add quite a lot of colour to the site, already. As well as all those visual aspects there are also numerous links to a whole host of Banjo related sites, which abound with Tenor Banjo eye candy. So I think we have a pretty good balance so far. Of course, on a site like that where space is at a premium, a balance has to be struck between visual & written stumuli & it would of course be impossible to please everyone at the same time. So, you'll always end up somewhere between just having Banjo Photo wallpaper from Google Photos & the Encyclopedia Britannica ... it's always going to be a juggling act. Of course on any site, there are always going to be those who just come along to take, but don't bother contributing themselves, for whatever reason, which is always a shame, because like most things in life, the more you put into something, the more you will get out of it. Anyway, if you are into the Tenor Banjo yourself Anton, you should join up & please feel free to bung loads of Banjo photos on the site. Cheers Dick |
