It's just for a bit of fun to hopefully cheer us all up after the terrible winter we have just had and start the new season off with a bang!

No one is paid,(no gigs etc ) and everyone comes at their own expense. We have visitors arriving from UK Germany and France to take part, as well as some very good local musicians and singers.

Hope to see you there

All the best

Is there a chance that we might hear a few sea shanties during the weekend? It seems to me that they would be rather appropriate to sing in this beautiful coastal village. I am really looking forward to this St. Patrick's Day weekend in Glengarriff.

Cornish May Carol

Unite and unite and let us all unite
For summer is a-come unto day
And wither we are going, we will all unite
In the merry morning of May

With a merry ring and now the joyful spring
O give us a cup of ale and the merrier we will sing

The young men of Padstow, they might if they would
They might have built a ship and gilded it all in gold

The young women of Padstow, they might if they would
They might have built a garland of the white rose and the red

Where are those young men that now here should dance?
For some they are in England and some they are in France

O where is St. George?
O where is he o ?
He's out in his longboat
All on the salt sea-o
Up flies the kite
Down falls the lark-o
And Ursula Birdhood she had an old ewe
And she died in her own park-o

With a merry ring and now the joyful spring
So happy are those little birds and the merrier we will sing

from the May celebration at Padstow, Cornwall

Correction, when we said Kerry's own John Buckley, of course we meant Cork's own. As he lives just over the border outside Coolea. Us Kerry people just like to claim the best for ourselves!!

And in our defence, we usually meet him on the Kerry side of the border(Just) at the Top Of Coom.
We are hoping he will be well enough to come along on Friday evening, as he hasn't been too well lately. Fingers Crossed.

Hi Just a quick note to let you know how the weekend went. It Was A great sucess and is set to become an anual event Starting on the friday night with a fabulous performance from Accordion Player John Buckley, who launched his new CD on the night, "Tunes From The Heart" John got the whole thing off to a good start, and his CD was very well received. Followed by an open session including songs and trad tunes from visiting musicians.

Saturday began in glorious sunshine and would you believe it, we played out in the Street (In March!!!) and had a great open Mic session.
Steve Roache From Kanturk started off the evening inside the lounge with the launch of his much anticipated new CD "My Travels in Story and Song" A Rare mix of song story and recitation, including a lot of Steve's own works. He was very well supported by his home crowd who came along in strength, and also the locals and visitors who thorughly enjoyed the event. We finished the night with an open session. We also had the Half yard of ale comptition, which was great fun, a cross between having a drink and a bath!!

Sunday saw again a great open air session in front of the pub,Including a fantastic barbeque Generously provided by Bernard Harrington where we were joined by a local family of musicians The McLintock Clan. They are simply stunning talent, and as Marie said, they will go far in the business, some of the best musicians and also the nicest people we have met. They stayed untill early evening, When we where joined by another good friend and great Musician, The one and only Jerry MaCarthy. Jerry is a superlative box player, and he really warmed things up with some blistering jigs reels and hornpipes.

We finished the weekend with the inevitable 'Survivors Session' or as we like to call it "Sore Fingers Time.
Throughout the weekend there was also music at other venues in the village, Including the Glengarriff Park. All Musicians who played at Bernard Harringtons generously Gave of their time and talents for no monetary reward, They just played for fun, love of music and craic, and to help support the festival and the village.

Thanks to all who helped with the weekend, Including Bernard Harrington for all his support and great hospitality.(and tasty Barbeque!). Colm McCarthy ( The Park Hotel) Who had an unbeatable Festval special for accomodation for the weekend. West Cork People newspaper who wrote a splendid article in the paper to help publicise the weekend. and also the local arts and crafts group who organised a great art exhibition in the village throughout the weekend.

In Short a great time was had by all and we are looking forward to and planning for next years event already.
The sun shone for us, and the craic was mighty.

Our next project is in October at Irelands Highest Pub, The Top of Coom, Near to where we live High in the moutains on the Cork/Kerry Border, Music In the mountains, We already have a list of visitors arriving for that from as far away as California, also France Germany and other parts of Europe.
