music career site + Anthony Seeger

One thread, two different things of interest:

First, I found and interesting site by googling on Anthony Seeger, nephew of Pete, Mike & Peggy, past director of Smithsonian Folkways recordings and currently professor of ethnomusicology at UCLA. I found a 38-minute video interview with him on the subject of his work in ethnomusicology and being a music educator. It's on this page.

Second, the website where this page is, "Artists House Music", is subtitled, "Helping musicians and music entrepeneurs create sustainable careers." It's very information-dense, and seems to cover a wide range of topics quite thoroughly.

Under "About Us", it says,

"Funding for the development of Artists House Music has been provided by the Herb Alpert Foundation. The foundation devised the idea for an online, non-profit musicians' Website where all musicians can receive informational support, guidance, and expert resources to help them navigate the challenges and maximize the opportunities available to them within the music industry."

Topics include what kinds of careers there are (more than just "performer"), marketing, production, legal info, education, genres, etc. Within each topic, there are online master classes, interviews with lots of interesting people, answers to "Essential Questions", and links to other resources.

For anyone who wants to develop a "sustainable career" in music (an important qualifier they add there!), it seems like there is lots of useful info here.

The thread title doesn't capture the "music career" topic, so I've added it as the subject line of this post, hoping it will help people find that site.

I last saw Tony Seeger with his banjo on the green campus of a boarding school in Vermont.   Must have been 1962 or thereabouts. Well, and once after that at a party in the City, I forget where. But I wouldn't recognize him--he looks less like Pete and he sounds a lot mellower.
