Netiquette for linking to DT lyrics?

I want to expand my child ballad site by including lyrics for which I don't have full arrangements (I'll put them as links on the pages that I already have). I want to include those from DT. I'd put a box on the individual ballad pages that says, "Variants at Digital Tradition" and put links directly to them there. My preference would be to link directly to lyrics here - as there are a lot of midis too. However, some sites prefer that you copy and upload pages to your own server and run them locally. What would mudcat prefer I do? I do not want to steal any thunder (or bandwidth, or credit).

Hi, Lesley - I'm sure Dick Greenhaus will come in and let you know his "druthers" about posting lyrics from the database (I'll bet he'll say that's fine-and-dandy) but it's not a good idea to link to individual songs in the database - a new version of the database is posted twice a year, and the URLs for all those songs change. I post a lot of links here in the forum to songs in the database. Many of those links seem to survive the changes in the database, and I don't know why - maybe that's a result of some of Max's magic. Maybe Max can advise you on how to post stable links to songs in the database.

The Digital Tradition is free to all to use as they see fit. We appreciate a credit line, but insisting on one would indicate that we own the songs, which we difinitely do NOT

Thanks Joe and Dick - I am, as usual, overwhelmed by the generosity of this place!

The links change... darn... Maybe I will just list the names and provide a brief annotation and search instructions...
