I'd be happy if someone just shot them all with arrows.

A good idea? Sure...but the Golden rule will be in effect...

As a long time user of Robin Hood flour, I object.

I think it is a great idea and we should do it over here, too!

In this article about it some folks say it will only be effective if everyone (as in, every country) buys in... and express doubts that the U.S. could ever get it done...

(the story/video must have reached the viral stage on the interweb -- I got another note about it from someone else this morning.)

Do I recall correctly that this proposal used to be known as the Tobin tax?

I should have clicked on your link, DD, before I asked that question?

Yes.

If trades continue as before it will shift the tax burden onto the vampires (and their castles the banks) who currently feed off the system and the people.

If trades drop it will reduce the speculation that has contributed to damaging volatility.

Re-introducing exchange control would be good too.

And general restrictions on the freedom of movement of capital. The flight of manufacture and services to low-tax and low-cost jurisdictions enables evasion of proper obligations.

How long would it remain a "tiny" tax?

Well, I read the arguments for and against, I understand the scepticism, but I added my name to it. Still looks better than anyone else has come up with.

The fact that such a minuscule tax could raise such a phenomenal amount of money is a bit revealing about just how much money is made by large financial institutions.
