From: Genie Is there any way to watch just some of the Olympic events - maybe 45 min. worth in an evening - without sitting in front of the TV for 4 hours waiting for the little interspersed segments you're interested in? Yeah, I know if you have TiVo or a VCR, etc., you can do that, but what if you don't? Are there places to watch selected events online and cut out the commercials, the commentaries, and the thrilling video of cross-country skiing? |

Actually, I'd be delighted to watch an hour of figure skating or maybe snowboarding, complete with commercials (gotta take a potty break sometime), if I didn't have to sit through 5 min, of luge, 5 min, of X-C skiing, 5 min. of speed skating, 10 min. of "back stories" on the lugers, skiers and speed skaters, plus 10 min. of scintillating commentary by the hosts, for every 5 min. of figure skating. |

They even have a name for it..."the tease"....show you part of various things, but no conclusions until the last part of the broadcast. When I used a VCR regularly, I would just put in a 4 hour tape and then fast forward later. |

Yes, they did save the top ranked pairs for the last half hour -- BUT I had no way of knowing that beforehand, so I had the danged thing on all evening when I could have taken a nap or watched something else. I couldn't even take out 15 min. for a shower without risking missing one of the pairs. And they DID intersperse several other pairs' routines (e.g., the Americans and the Canadians) among the other events over a 3 1/2 hour period. Unless there's some way to watch these things later online, it looks like I'll probably miss some of the events I want to watch, simply because I cannot predict WHEN in the evening's lineup those events (e.g., a particular skater's program) is going to be sprung on the viewer. If I dare snooze for 10 minutes, get up to fix a sandwich or get a beer (or recycle the last one), there's a fairly good chance I'll miss part or all of the 4-minute segment I've been waiting to see. Argh! It's aggravating enough that I find myself on the verge of just saying "Screw it!" and turning off the TV. |

The evening show with the three best plus US and Canadian mens singles skaters, and the Snowboard cross with Canadian winner, was all I wanted. The Canadian channel had the hockey game (I might watch the final game when that comes around. I don't bother with the Canadian daytime broadcasts. |

From: PoppaGator During the Summer Olympics, NBC made it clear, early and often, that events were being shown on "the NBC family of networks" (i.e. several cable outlsets in addition to the main network). Not a word about such additional coverage this time around for the admittedly smaller Winter Games. I accidentally stumbled upon Snowboard Halfpipe coverage on Universal HD (one of the aforementioned "family"). Makes me wonder if other events might be found on MSNBC, CNBC, Bravo, Telemundo. When events from Beijing were being aired on all those different networks, I could almost always find something to my peculiar tastes at any given moment... |
