18 Feb 10 - 07:03 AM (#2842869) Subject: BS: Politics From: Bonzo3legs I asked my friend's little girl what she wanted to be when she grows up. She said she wanted to be Prime Minister some day. Both her parents, Labour supporters, were standing there, so I asked her, "If you were Prime Minister what would be the first thing you would do?" She replied, "I'd give food and houses to all the homeless people." Her parents beamed, and said, "Welcome to the Labour Party!" "Wow...what a worthy goal!" I told her. I continued, "But you don't have to wait until you're Prime Minister to do that. You can come over to my house, mow the lawn, pull weeds, sweep my drive and I'll pay you £25. Then I'll take you over to the shop where the homeless guy sits outside. You can give him the £25 to use towards food." She thought that over for a few seconds, then she looked me straight in the eye and asked, "Why doesn't the homeless guy come over and do the work and you can just pay him the £25?" I smiled and said, "Welcome to the Conservative Party ." Her parents still aren't speaking to me. |

18 Feb 10 - 08:23 AM (#2842950) Subject: RE: BS: Politics From: theleveller "Make the guy the offer. " Yeah, but before he paid the bloke, Boko would deduct a tenner to give to some rich public school banker twat of his acquaintance to piss up in a city wine bar. After which, he would contact the DSS and ensure that any benefits the homeless guy might be receiving were stopped. Welcome to the REAL Conservative Party! |

18 Feb 10 - 08:42 AM (#2842971) Subject: RE: BS: Politics From: theleveller Oh, and if the homeless chap happened to die of cold, Boko would rifle his pockets, take back the money, steal his clothes and shoes and give them to some rich public school banker twat of his acquaintance to piss up in a city wine bar (whilst, at the same time, guaranteeing that his rich mates weren't subject to inheritance tax when they pegged it). |

18 Feb 10 - 10:11 AM (#2843083) Subject: RE: BS: Politics From: Little Hawk Both those parties lie. They don't serve the public, and they don't encourage individual public responsibility either. What they do is this: they serve their major sources of funding, and those major sources are the richest and most powerful 2% of people in society. This is true of the Left, and it's true of the Right, and they are both liars. So, welcome to the party of your choice...and if you believe in them, either of them, or any of them...you've been duped. |

Income for a poor bartender and the hard-pressed wine bar owner. That's the way capitalism is supposed to work. Everybody benefits. The empty bottle tossed in the rubbish will be picked up by the homeless wino and will add to his content when he sells to the recycler, and the recycler gains income to support his family- Spending is the secret! |

19 Feb 10 - 06:59 PM (#2844596) Subject: RE: BS: Politics From: Little Hawk You see...in the real world, the homeless guy doesn't get hired. Why? Well, he doesn't have a phone. He doesn't have a driver's license. He doesn't have transportation. He doesn't have clean clothing. He doesn't have a place to take a shower, so he probably doesn't smell too good. He can't afford to make himself presentable in any way to a potential employer from the middle or upper classes. This is the part that doesn't get mentioned in the "conservative" fairy-telling agenda about "equal opportunity". Who does get hired to clean up Bonzo's yard? I'll tell you who gets hired. A professional landscaping outfit gets hired. They are the people whom Bonzo looks up in the phone book, phones, gets a quote from, and happily hires to clean up his yard. They cost more than the homeless guy, yes....but they are people Bonzo can relate to, because they look "respectable", they arrive in a nice clean van, they have the right tools and equipment to do the job fast, and they will present him with an invoice which he can use for tax purposes. Bonzo is afraid of the homeless guy. The homeless guy might come back in the middle of the night and rob his house. The homeless guy might be drunk and disorderly. The homeless guy might scare his neighbours or molest his children. There is little likelihood at all that Bonzo will ever hire the homeless guy to do anything on his property. He'd much rather hire someone who doesn't make him feel uncomfortable. So he will either hire some professionals or he'll hire a teenage neighbor from his own class level. The homeless guy can just go die under a bridge, thank you very much, because conservatives only hire people who have already proven they are decent people who deserve to be hired, by God!!!! And those aren't homeless people! |

19 Feb 10 - 07:13 PM (#2844605) Subject: RE: BS: Politics From: Little Hawk By the way, I should add to the above (in the interest of fairness) that the vast majority of so-called "liberals" will not hire the homeless guy either...because they are just as scared of him as the conservatives are. The liberals and the conservatives will BOTH hire someone they feel comfortable being around...and that is not the homeless guy. No siree. Those are the hard facts, and they are facts that the little girl in the story was not made aware of. She probably has not taken on most of the prejudices and fears of her elders....yet. |

19 Feb 10 - 08:06 PM (#2844643) Subject: RE: BS: Politics From: CarolC The little girl in the story doesn't exist, LH. It's a fictional story being spread around the internet by a lot of people. One of those stories people make up to try to make a point that really makes no sense whatever. |

19 Feb 10 - 10:07 PM (#2844708) Subject: RE: BS: Politics From: Little Hawk Yeah, and here's the real truth about Labour and the Conservatives...same as the Democrats and Republicans... They will BOTH lie to you about what they're really doing, which is working secretly for the interests of the big bankers and the big business community which fund them. They will BOTH lie to you about what certain other countries are doing, and they will both lead you into foreign wars of aggression based on those lies. They will both tax you relentlessly through the hidden tax of inflation, accomplished by major banks fraudulently enlarging the money supply by creating massive DEBT. Your taxes and the higher prices you are forced to pay by the inflation will only pay down a small fraction of the debt...and the overall debt will grow larger. Your money will shrink in value steadily. They will BOTH reduce your civil liberties in the name of "national security". They will BOTH reduce your free speech in order to "protect" you. The little girl doesn't know any of this yet. She'll find out in due course of time. If she's like most people, though, she'll be fooled by the "divide and conquer" tactics of the partisan system and become an enthusiastic support of either one political party...or the other...doesn't really matter which, because they are both liars. And the homeless guy? He'll die under a bridge. |

20 Feb 10 - 01:49 PM (#2845201) Subject: RE: BS: Politics From: mousethief Who does get hired to clean up Bonzo's yard? I'll tell you who gets hired. A couple of undocumented Mexican guys who were hanging out in front of Home Depot. He can pay them far less than minimum wage, so he can hire two of them to do the job for less green than he can hire the one homeless citizen. Thus rewarding and thereby increasing the flow of illegal immigrants that he can then write to his congresscritter and bitch about. O..O =o= |
|
20 Feb 10 - 02:04 PM (#2845214) Subject: RE: BS: Politics From: Little Hawk Ah, yes...another possibility. The Mexican guys are, however, among those people who basically get either overlooked or ruthlessly exploited by the powers that be (in both Mexico and the USA). Illegal immigration is mostly driven by desperation and economic privation. Most people would happily stay in their own country of birth, provided they could find safety, security, and a reliable means of earning an income there. If you want to end illegal immigration, you must end dire poverty, cruel dictatorships, and gross inequality on this planet. |
|
20 Feb 10 - 02:11 PM (#2845218) Subject: RE: BS: Politics From: CarolC Even more importantly, LH, if the US wants to reduce illegal immigration, we need to stop flooding the markets of other countries with cheap subsidized agricultural products which end up putting the farmers in those countries out of business. |
