Info Req: Calvin Woolsey

He wrote ragtime pieces and I am looking for a full list.

According to wikipedia:
"He sold two of these to Jerome H. Remick and self-published several others."

The biggest list I can find (I haven't found a place with more info than wiki..and nothing that contradicts the bit they have) is:

Funny Bones
Medic Rag
Peroxide Rag
Mashed Potatoes
Lover's Lane Glide

I am interested in the 'self-published others' and would like to hear recordings of some. 'Mashed Potatoes' is on youtube and there's a midi of 'Medic Rag' on a site whose name I neglected to copy last night.

I know there are folks here who know good places to search for this type of information..I'm not one of them and would really appreciate some input.

Thanks,
Melissa

Thanks, 999. I was expecting to see a solemn old gentleman!

I know that during his schooling years, it was common for folks to not attend past 8th grade or so. With him having gone to Harvard, I would assume that he probably did graduate from high school. I haven't found anything that said where he graduated..but I imagine someone local will know when I start talking to them.

While looking for Woolsey info, I came across a thing that said "Missouri Waltz" was originally named "Graveyard Waltz". Of course, that has very little to do with the topic at hand, but a person can never have too much trivia..

"Dr. Calvin Lee Woolsey was a dedicated physician in Braymer for years along with his father and his brother. He specialized in "Mental hygiene". He was also an accomplished musician who composed such "Rag-Time" hits as "Mashed Potatoes", "Hearts Across the Sea", and many others. A display honoring him is housed in the Braymer High School"

Then I better go to Braymer and look at the display!

Maybe there's also a list (or copies) of his compositions at the school..

I'm not finding any other songs, Melissa.

Me either..but adding "Hearts Across the Sea" and "Poison Rag" to the existing list made it considerably bigger--and gives me a long enough list to provide at least that much to whomever I book for a Woolsey Focus gig.

Have it on my homepage for Braymer, my home town

http://braymer.homestead.com/

My late greatuncle Mike Toomay was friends with Doc Woolsey and like him was a musician.....

That's Dean's page, isn't it, Guest?

I'll be putting a thing in the paper before too long..inviting folks from each of the towns within the county to meet/gather in their towns. When I do that, I hope you come to a meeting and introduce yourself to me.
My article will be in the JourneyStories section.

Did Mike Toomay write songs too?

Thanks,
Melissa
