Sick thread alert...

03 Aug 99 - 12:02 AM (#101787)
Subject: Sick thread alert...
From: WyoWoman

I've tried to respond a couple of times to the "Are you real out there" thread and it won't let me post, plus it tells me the program has performed an illegal operation and shuts me down.

Just wanted to let someone know...

WW...just posted to the Are You Out there without a problem...sometimes my 'pewter does that and I go back, start over and it is alright. I think it doesn't like it when I look at it with crossed eyes:-)

WW, try reversing the thread order as soon as it appears. I can't get all the way down it. There's something in Bert's post two below me that keeps the program from loading properly.
Blessings,
Barbara

I've tried loading that thread rightside up and upside down. In either direction, there's something in Bert's post of 10:43 am that prevents itself from loading and blocks whatever follows, whether in ascending or descending sort-mode.

The "Are you real" thread itself isn't of any particular interest, but it's important to figure out and devise a remedy for whatever glitch was introduced that makes the thread unreadable. .

I'm not having a problem, which might be relevant to figuring out what caused it.

AHA! Bert's message of 10:43 didn't appear to have anything in it. He posted some URLs to answer Catspaw's question, and there were quotation marks in between the '=' and the 'http.' Maybe that did something wierd?

And either Joe (or someone) just fixed it, or I'm goin' nuts.

Well, the former is true, Jeri. Whether the latter is true or not is yet to be seen.... (grin)
That's why I don't like people to use quotation marks within links - they're usually not needed, and it's too easy to make mistakes, and it's the only mistake that messes up the whole thread if you do it. But we still like Bert, don't we?

I had the same problem WW...kept getting a msg that said I was unable to connect to the site possibly due to traffic....I naturally assumed that if I didn't connect then the msg didn't get posted so every few minutes I hit the submit msg button and wound up posting the same msg about five times....btw what I saw was "UFOs are real....the Air Force is swamp gas." In case anyone's still interested....

Regards, Neil (who's ready for the men in little white coats to come take him away now )

I got a good laugh out of the multiple postings & replies, Neil. Woke Duane up w/ my laughing, in fact. Not a bad way. Don't be embarrassed; we've all done something silly here.

BTW, the "Test, Ignore" thread now has a problem.

Yup! it was my fault - I fat fingered some quotes and HTML got all confused. I called the elves and asked them to fix it. I guess they did.

Sorry for the connfusion.

Bert. (But NOW I know how to do it - Tee Hee)

I can no longer get into the "Saddest Song of All" Thread -- it crashes my computer. So I have avoided it (to the grateful thanks of a nation, I am sure).

Hi, Peter - "Saddest Song" looks normal to me, but sometimes the really big threads overload computers short on memory or with a slow Internet connection. It's a good idea to start a continuation thread once we hit a hundred messages or so.
-Joe Offer, off to look at the "test" thread-

What is this???

Hi Hillybilly, Welcome aboard.
What this is, is an alert that another thread was broken. You could only read so kmany messages when it locked up. The reason it locked up was because I typed something wrong and HTML got all confused.

Our community here has been going for a few years now and like any other group we have a certain number of 'in' jokes. But newcomers are always welcome, just join in and have fun.

Bert.
